I want a 24-70

I want a 24-70

Geoff very kindly lent me his 24-70 - ok, it was at the AW dinner so his judgement may have been a little affected. :D

Anyway, time has prevented me from using it as much as I would like, but here is one of Thomas that I liked. The sharpness beats that of the 85 1.4 at about f8.

Image

C&C, particularly relating to the processing, would be appreciated

Actually, I will go first: I am not comfortable with the composition - it seems boring and unbalanced. I have tried a square crop, but I believe the placement of Thomas' eyes in the image are problematic. Still, the facial expression overcomes that, for mine anyway. :D

Patrick,

The uncomfortable feeling your getting with the composition may just be the placement of the eyes, your subject seems to be looking off to the right of the frame but there is little space for the little fella to look into.

As for the post I think it works really well for this image,

Just a thought it's something I quite often remind myself of while shooting portraits.

An edit to demonstrate as long as you don't mind.
Don't mind the awefull cloning.

Another person lusts this lens! I fell in love with it looking through it on a D60 when it first came into the store....

Its in the eyes!!! The post works well, the high key accentuates the new-ness of life and innocence.

f8 ? lol i dont think so Pat. apart from at 70mm where the 24-70 is a little soft, the 24-70 is sharper than the 85/1.4 from 2.8 all the way thru the aperture range. by f8 almost all lens', in terms of sharpness, are relatively similar.

I quite like the second edit. Gives some room for the eyes to gaze into. Can we have a look at the color version?

As for the 24-70, I agree with rooz. I am sure you could have produced a similar image from your other lenses at f8.

:ot: but why is the nikon 24-70 much more dearer than the canon equivalent. Oh wait... I think I asked the wrong bunch of people. [awaiting snide remarks] :chook:

Not...

So, what I meant was that, the 85 1.4 at f8 (which is where I consider it to be close to its sharpest point) is not as sharp as the 24-70. :biglaugh:
