Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

First Try With HDR
Today i had a few hours to kill and it's quite overcast so i thought i'd give a few HDR shots a try...
Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I'm not a great fan of HDR...I think it rarely is done well...or when it needs to done, and the images have a 'fake' or 'over manipulated' look about them. Having said that I have seen some stunning HDR black and white images so clearly there is a use for the technique. Your images exhibit a competent handling of the technique and I guess that's where you need to be for that time when you come across a scene that cries out for some extension of the tonal range. I think your second image has gained some benefit from stretching the tones but the others don't work for me. Regards

Agreed. It's just something different i thought i'd try.
I've seen quite a few HDR shots of cars on a car forum i frequent and those people always push it right to it's limit rather than just trying to tweak it just a bit. I found the sky to be really difficult. If it's clear the blues look average and if there's trees the software can't convert the sky behind the branches and leaves. Since i'm so new to photography i thought i'd try things that seem interesting to find out what i really enjoy doing. Lightpainting is next.

As Matt has suggested, I would convert these to BW and see what happens....
Also if you plan for colour HDR, remove or minimise CA, BEFORE you process.

I still like #2 best. Try to burn and dodge selectively to make it even more moody....
Remember that still objects are easier to HDRfy as the blurriness of the trees maybe due to movement.
