Flower ShotsHi Everyone,
I just bought a 105mm Nikon macro lens and thought I would give it a try with a couple of photo's of some flowers. I'd be interested to see what people thought. C&C greatly appreciated. Thanks Andrew D700 / 14-24mm f2.8/ 24-70mm f2.8/ 85mm f1.4/ 70-200mm f2.8 / 105mm macro f 2.8 / SB900
Re: Flower ShotsIt will be a pleasure Andrew
#1 - The colour is gorgeous but the very small DOF in the relatively large area detracts from the overall image #2 - A lovely shot with good DOF, I like #3 - Just stunning. The small amount of yellow lifts the main colour beautifully #4 - Again, great colour but the lack of a defined point of interest makes this photo the weakest Chris

Re: Flower ShotsCongrats on your new purchase! I have to agree with Rooz, the first one does not do much. However #2 and #3 are simply spectacular! #4 is a nice abstract peice as well.
Great colours and detail in these shots! Cameron

Re: Flower ShotsThe 2nd one is my pick. Simple, nice light and shadows. The water also helps.
Re: Flower Shots1st picture is my pic love the color! the flower is bursting into life.
Re: Flower ShotsI quite like the first one.
The shallow DOF makes you notice all the fine detail of the flower.
Re: Flower ShotsLove those colours and composition!
If this is your first batch of photos, I can't wait to see some future installments!! Did you place the yellow behind the purple in the third or was it already there??
Re: Flower ShotsThanks everyone for the feedback it has been very helpful.
Surenj - i have posted some photo's before. These were the first I'd done with my new macro lens. No, the yellow was there in the third. D700 / 14-24mm f2.8/ 24-70mm f2.8/ 85mm f1.4/ 70-200mm f2.8 / 105mm macro f 2.8 / SB900
Re: Flower ShotsI like them all; the '105' is a fine lens!

Re: Flower Shotsnice series!

Re: Flower ShotsThanks Laurie
These were taken using a tripod. I used a Nikon SB900 as an off camera SB900 flash (use pop up flash as the master). This gave me a choice on which direction I wanted the light to hit the subject. D700 / 14-24mm f2.8/ 24-70mm f2.8/ 85mm f1.4/ 70-200mm f2.8 / 105mm macro f 2.8 / SB900
Re: Flower Shots

Re: Flower ShotsI really like the first three.
I agree that a little more depth into the foreground of #1 would improve the image. Very nice choice of subject matter. Regards Colin
