Tokina 10-17mm first picsI guess I am bending the intent of this board a bit, but critique is always welcomed and wanted. I recently received my Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye (huge thanks Poon and Gary) after receiving and returning a DOA lens. So I have been carrying it around for a few days and thought I would share a few of the photos I have been taking with it.
My Nikon FM2n...in the hands of my friend..the Tokina has an incredible minimum focus distance (14cm!!) the jacaranda in the Quad of USYD, I have intentionally cut off the top of the arch as it ends in a point. pointing skyward...not the best photographic practice but I like this shot...will have to revisit and reshoot without being in the picture myself Snapshot Cameron

Re: Tokina 10-17mm first picsLooks like a great toy! I like the second shot. Great framing.
Shikes! was that a quality control (tokina) or a delivery issue?
Re: Tokina 10-17mm first pics
I hesitate to say a quality control issue, and can definitely rule out a delivery issue, as this is the only recorded DOA Tokina in the model that I can find. I trawled the internet and could not find any other incidents being reported. I guess it was just a continuation of my long run of bad luck. Cameron

Re: Tokina 10-17mm first picsI think you are still lucky that you got it resolved. If it was a random ebay seller, this may have been a different story.
Re: Tokina 10-17mm first pics
I shudder at the thought....glad that I chose to buy from Poon through this forum. Cameron

Re: Tokina 10-17mm first picsGlad to see you got the issue sorted and a new lens in your ever growing bag of goodies...
the first image is nice! Speaking with Peter on the w/e and trying his fish, these lens are something else and once you have mastered the ins and outs you can produce some very tidy images - liek teh first one. I think its probably a bit of a thought process change when composing, one must consider lines and how they are gonna bend before clicking away needlessly. Anyone would think you and leek where in teh same place on the w/e! Have fun with the fish... gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Tokina 10-17mm first picscam i really like the last 2. the perspective of this lens looks great.

Re: Tokina 10-17mm first pics
Gerry, if you want to play with a fish then you can always play with my new toy...yes that bag is getting more goodies (too many...must stop) and I am having heaps of fun with the fisheye. It really is very different looking at how the lines bend in the viewfinder. I found myself often scaring myself how close i had gotten to the subject (my Nikon FM2 in that first image) due to the short minimum focal distance on the tokina. However these were shot on Wednesday and not on the weekend so I was not around campus, else i would have been in the company of Leek.
Thanks Rooz, I really like the last image, and vow to return to reshoot the 3rd image. Cameron

Re: Tokina 10-17mm first picsThe new toy is gorgeous!!! I am glad it's back. I like the second one most the arch and the tree works very nicely together.
I must say though I never thought I'd see the da that you willingly put a photo of your self up on the forum. hehehehe
Re: Tokina 10-17mm first pics
