POTW 13 October 2009This week I've chosen one of a fine set of images by Rooz for Picture Of The Week. While all four images in the original post were of a high calibre, I've singled out the one below which I find just a smidgen better than it's companions. Why so? It's all about two very important elements in an image - exposure and composition.
This is beautifully exposed - the foreground is well lit, while the background is also clear and sufficiently bright to pick out the detail. Additionally there are no blown highlights in the whites of the image despite the 0.8 sec exposure which is a challenge in itself. Compositionally the image is strong too. We have the dominating rock formation surrounded by a milky swirl of water, but there is the well chosen, but subtle, counterpoint of the skyline and city in the background to encourage the viewer to linger a little and enjoy the image. Congratulations Chris on POTW for the fine image below. Interestingly Chris's image of the boats (#3 in this post) was in my final 3 so it must have been a productive week for him.: Peter

Re: POTW 13 October 2009Brilliant shot Chris - congrats. Here I was thinking that 'wet spots' were bad/uncomfortable . Despite that this is a truely great image! Great choice Peter.

Re: POTW 13 October 2009Lovely image, congratulations. The water droplets add a subtle 3D effect (without the glasses!)

Re: POTW 13 October 2009NICE, the affect of the water in the foreground makes the rock look alive! lizard maybe? so much impact that it took me some time to see the water drops. Good one
