The blues played slow.

As y'all know, I spent the weekend at the Sydney Blues Festival at Windsor. This was the inaugural event, and it was a very good weekend. Well organised, good bands and music, the venues were great, with good layouts, and very good sound.

I was quite impressed.

From the Netherlands, there was John The Revelator. To be honest, I was expecting something close to a gospel style. Boy, was I wrong.

These guys have been playing together for over forty years, and they know how to play the slow blues. I was taken back to Friday nights at the Roundhouse at UNSW, such was the way these guys smoked their version of the slow blues.

One of the class acts of the festival, they're going to be touring WA for the next few weeks, and will be at Bridgeport. For our WA members, I cannot recommend these guys highly enough: if you see them coming your way, make the effort to catch them, and say to them for me.

Thanx all for the kind words.

They weren't simply having a good time; music is all about communication, and especially when you're on stage, performing. You're communicating with the other players, you're communicating with the audience, and - especially with the slow blues - the music shouldn't just be played. It needs to be felt; it needs to come from the heart.

I hope that this comes through in these images - and at least some of those in the gallery - of these guys.

Some great shots gstark. I like the way you've captured the action and managed to keep the uninteresting parts out of the frame. Like an ugly amp and possibly a passed out roady.
