Dealing with the heat

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Well it is warming up here in adelaide and it was interesting to see these birds of prey dealing with the heat all in the same way..... Taken with the 400 with a 1.4x on it.

beautiful attention to detail - especially like the 1st
what's the eyes reflecting in #2 ? interesting speckle pattern I haven't noticed before
thought on a day like today you may have headed to the beach for a bit of bird watching

Deb the eye is like that, I giess with the extra resolution and being so close it just shows up better. If I took the 400 to the beach they would try and lock me up

Make a triptych out of these! Great shots indeed.

The first could improve a little if the eye had a little more light on it.

You could get away with it if you took a model to bondi beach with a 400. Perhaps if you had a few assistants? :mrgreen:

I Love number 4- it's got real character and is a somewhat unsettling portrait. Beautiful focus. You said it was a 400 but what's the glass?

did you offer them some water? :lol: they look alittle thirsty :wink: Also, check out the eyebrows in #2, now thats what I call functional!

I like the final image the most, there are no harsh shadows and the posture really conveys the thread title! Nice ones!

An amazing series there Big V. I really like reading everyone elses comments, means I can go back and notice what they have noticed before me.

Great shots with great sharpness and detail. Very interesting notes on the eyes (Deb) and eyebrows (Gerry). I will have to agree with the last being my favourite.

Smashing shots. I like them all, but wish there was a little more detail in the shadows of the second and third. The first and the last have great lighting.

The 400 refers to the 400mm F2.8 lens that I use.The camera body is a Canon 1DMK111. Take the point about the shadows- my fault for being lazy and not carrying a flash for a little bit of fill.

Fantastic behavioural shots BigV !!! Maybe it was good that you didn't have flash, as that may have caused the birds to snap their mouths shut, not given you these fabulous shots :cheers: . I'd be happy with them as are :)
