Hi everyone

Here's a few shots from the Cinque Terre, Italy. C&C appreciated. :-)

We walked for 3 hours to see this view!

That view is stunning, I hope that was not the only picture you took from there though....I would say it was worth the hike (but not everyone would agree).

My favourite is the 2nd..the composition works well BUT it appears a bit too bright, any chance of another with more highlight detail or pulling that exposure back a bit?

#1 is great. Excellent punchy colours.

Was it possible to have moved a bit more forward in #1 to avoid the grass in the foreground?

#4 is my next favourite (due to the wider crop than #2). I do agree with aim54x though. I would like to see more contrast, less brightness (more of the punchy colour of #1 displayed). It does look like it may have been around midday, and therefore difficult shooting conditions.

#4 (and to a lesser degree #2) need some straightening of the horizon (4 is worse than 2)

#3 does not do too much for me I am afraid.

Cathy,

Monterosso is where I want to retire to. Seriously; I fell in love with it when I first visited there during my avoid-the-Sydney-olympics tour in 2000. I think I still have a business card from a small B&B in the main village, through the tunnel.

The first image is very good; it captures just about everything that is Le Cinque Terre: the water, the boats, the colours, the buildings, and the terrain.

I hope that you also have some shots of the olive groves and grapevines.

And several bottles of limoncello on hand. :)

Hi Gary.... I fell in love with Monterosso as well.... so beautiful... and I loved the walks from town to town as well. Tom and I have many photos from here... still going through them. I am going to have a play in PS to see if I can make the boats a bit more vibrant... though, as well, that was the colour they were, and the photo as is is a nice memory :-)

I wouldn't. My recollection matches yours - that these boats are faded and weathered - and IMHO adding vibrancy or contrast would not add any value to these images.

What you have is Monterosso as it is, and that is already very bloody pretty. if you think you can improve upon what's there already, then you have my attention, but I really don't like your chances. :) :)

Yes you are right... I just had a play and making the colours more vibrant was very un-Monterosso. Photo stays as is :-) As, I hope, will Monterosso :-)

PS The photo of Vernazza is slightly HDR'ed (3 bracket exposure)
