Defiance at Cockatoo IslandAnd a few other odd shots ... Sunbather ... Rusty sunbather ... Shooting the bird ... Old style earring? ... FYI, the "gaol" in which Matt was captured, was fake, placed there, we believe, as a part of the film set for Wolverine, IIRC. The bars, the surrounding brickwork, the girders around the brickwork etc were all fake, made of timber, but they were all very realistic to look at, even close up. Rust marks, rivets, weld splatter were all present and very correctly accounted for. While on the one hand it was quite interesting and illuminating to be able to see these items and observe the obvious fine craftsmanship and skill that were used in their creation, a part me wonders at why this still remains in what is a wonderful historic part of our city. These are not a part of what the island was, and given the site's historic value, one has to question as to why these items remain on the site. Another observation was that there is camping available on the site, at $45/tent/night, with each tent accommodating up to 4 PAX. BYO clothes, food and eskies, alcohol not permitted. I am wondering if there is any interest for an overnighter here? Consider the photographic options of both a sunset and a sunrise from a choice piece of Sydney Harbour real estate. g.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Defiance at Cockatoo Island
I too would be very interested. From memory it is cheaper if you BYO tent??? & I suppose NYE is booked out already for the next century & a half
Strange. I thought they closed Callan Park Greg

Re: Defiance at Cockatoo Island
One would presume so, but we didn't ask, nor did we ask about group bookings. NYE is at a premium of 100%, which I still consider to be very reasonable: $90 for 4 PAX, and BYO whatever. That could be as little as $23 plus ferry passage plus food and drink. There are two fridges, and lots of barbies plus shaded seating and tables as per Suren's photo. They suggested bookings for NYE should be made about 6 months in advance, and I too think that to be a very reasonable and workable option. For next year.
That actually used to be a quite common occurrence. About twenty or so years ago. g.

Re: Defiance at Cockatoo IslandLove the defiance! Just need to add Wolverine claws......
Camping sounds interesting. Do they have powerpoints or do we have to get solar chargers??
Re: Defiance at Cockatoo Island
Just bring some spare batteries Surenj. This could be very interesting depending upon the neighbours. Regards Colin

Re: Defiance at Cockatoo IslandI have been looking at camping over at Cockatoo a number of times....if we want to make a big group booking I would be all for it....maybe sometime after the new year......
Maybe we should look at starting a EOI! Cameron

Re: Defiance at Cockatoo IslandI've always wanted to a spooky tent lightpainting photo....
Re: Defiance at Cockatoo Island
Lightpainting at Cockatoo Island, as well as sunset and sunrise. I'm thinking in terms of March for this, because January will be too busy, and February might be likely to be too hot and humid. Just so long as we don't bump into Easter, or the Kennedy concerts at the SOH. g.

Re: Defiance at Cockatoo Island
well they do have very nice gardens there ...it only recently closed from memory, the place looks like a gaol more then a hospital
very good, no better time then now to re-kindle that old flame now onto the images.. how would that rusty sunbather look in BW? The first with MattK is a classic, I would consider straightening him up a bit though... gerry's photography journey
