Our next Sydney 2x2 meet is Saturday 12 December on Cockatoo Island in Sydney harbour (some images of mine from former visits are HERE). I strongly suggest you bring a tripod since much of the shooting is indoors which lends itself to long exposures. This is a fantastic location with lots of rusty and derelict plant and equipment and a link to yesteryear. It also lends itself to HDR shots if you're interested in experimenting with that. We'll be breaking for lunch at 1pm in the camping area near the toilet block so if you can't make it in the morning then join us for a Christmas lunch. Either bring your own food or you can buy food and drinks from the shop/cafe on site. Note that Cockatoo Island is an alcohol free zone. Access is via ferry (times are HERE) We'll meet at Wharf 5 Circular Quay at 9:15 am sharp. This is an all weather event - much of the photography is indoors. Please confirm your interest by posting below. If you don't have my mobile number please PM me. So far I have the following people: devilla101 biggerry Matt K. & Philo firsty craig.rohse stubbsy wendell six nnnnsic rossda gstark Possible: Mr Darcy & Pam dawesy Finally, for those attending, we'll have a little festive challenge for you to participate inWho knows, Santa may even deliver a present

Sorry I cant make this one, will be slaving away at my retail job. Any plans for extending the day into the evening? Even that would be a stretch for me as I am out at Macarthur for work though.

Attendance list updated at top of this thread. Note the start time has been moved one hour later to 9:15 so people don't have to leave home too early

The later time makes this feasible for us, though we will need to check train timetables & trackwork plans before we can be certain.
Put us down as possibles.

I may come later in the day. I'm diving on Friday night which means I won't get to bed until after midnight. I don't like the idea of getting up at sparrow's fart.

I'm about 85% certain of being in for this one, pending some scheduling issues with my weekend. About time I pulled my finger out and came along on another meet!

Have fun y'all. I did have the luxury of visiting codock (as we used to call it) shortly after I joined the Navy while it was still operating. (Cockatoo island, not the Navy.) It was old, rusty and decrepit then too. Just like me now. I would love to come and see how much things have change, if at all, but alas, I have an open house this weekend and selling this place in NSW is much more important to me right now, so I can leave this crazy state permanently and return to the sane world. As a small bit of interest. The last Navy ship to be built at Cockatoo Island, HMAS Success, is still very much in service today. However, if the skill level of the welders who built the thing is anything to go by, there is no wonder Cockatoo Island closed down.

I'm afraid we have to drop out. Late breaking commitments make it slightly impossible

Some late breaking changes for me, too. It looks like I can actually be there. Jot me down as 95%. Battery chargers on full steam...
Cheers Steffen.

A big thank you to Peter for taking the time to organise today's event, and a big thank you too, to all who attended. I am sure that everyone had a great day, and the Island is just a photographic heaven, with so much to see and do there. The weather was perfect picnic weather, which means that it's great, looks really pretty on the harbour, but can pose some challenges photographically.
For the information of those who were unable to join us, we had a spot contest as follows: I brought along a Dell Wasabi portable printer. This prints out 2" x 3" images on ZINK paper, either directly from the camera, or from a computer or mobile phone using bluetooth. Each person selected what they considered to be their best image, we printed out each one, and then the assembled multitude voted for their favourite image based upon the prints.
Congratulations to Wendell, whose photo was voted to be the best on the day.
I will start a new thread later today (unless someone beats me to it), and it would be great if everyone could post their selected image into that thread. That would be additional to the normal threads that we see from these sorts of events.
Again, thank you Peter, for your efforts in organising today; you are a greatly appreciated member of our community.
