Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

It seems I haven't done one of these in a while - I went walkabout and missed my last spot on the rota - but it is no less challenging than I remember. I love looking at photographs, and there are some absolute beauties in the forum pages at the moment. I could have selected a Top Ten, really. My heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed images this week. But in the end, a couple of photos spoke to me; both taken by the same photographer. And without diminishing his work in any way, I can't help but notice that there is a new camera involved. The jpeg rendering straight out of the camera is astounding, and makes an absolute laugh of what we imagined as digital photography even a few years ago. The photograph I selected is from this thread and is this image by ozimax: There is some sort of 3D effect at work here that I find very appealing. It is also evident in this image from the same camera: So, big congrats to you, ozi - you are certainly making that camera sing!

Great PotW Ozi (and I think this shot would be NSFW in NZ)

Thankyou all, I am humbled.
I am in a little motel in Okahune, NZ, typing this on my iPhone with scratchy Internet. NZ is such a great place for photographs. Every day something, somewhere screams out to be captured. Mostly it is the incredible light which makes or breaks any photo.
The Canon 5D, while I suppose not all that important, is neveretheless a superb piece of kit. It is a little clunky to operate, but the images it churns out are amazing. The flower shot is testament to it's Japanese wizardry. I still think though that taking a memorable image is 99% being in the right light at the right time.
As for the sheep, Greg:
"Upon the road to Rockabout I came upon some sheep..."
That's all I can remember!
Again, many thanks. Ozi.

I look at the first photo and I cannot help but thinking that at any moment Maria is going to come out singing "The Sound of Music". Well done!
