Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Well, it has been ages since I have posted an image and even longer since I have posted an image of a subject other than my children. Here is a photo of one of my children....taken last week at my sister-in-law's house in Brisbane. Their house is a amazing as a photo venue - beautiful and plentiful natural light, excellent 'decor' for backgrounds...shame it's wasted on non-photographic people. :D

Image

I thought about cropping the right hand side of this, and tried it, but found that it felt cramped. I don't mind Tommy having space to 'look into'.

This is one of their spoodle.

Image

Both images in available light and minimally retouched.

C&C appreciated.
Regards, Patrick

Patrick Patrick Patrick...this image of Tommy is one of the best I've seen from you! It's encaptulating, innocent and magical all in one. The use of available light and his gaze to (? whatever it is off camera) is fantastic. This is begging to be printed big-ish OR printed to canvas or some of that fancy ilford paper you often waffle on about :)

I really like this image. If I were to offer some critique, I'd see if you could bring up the light a tad on Tommy's left eye and left side of his head. I also think this image would work well in B&W too, can we see how you convert this and how it compares?

The dog shot is nice, but it doesn't compare to that of Tommy's shot. Fantastic work, and thanks for sharing. Any more?

Well done son!

Thanks gentle people.

I have already printed the one of Tommy at A3 size on Ilford Smooth Pearl (haven't been game to get the Gold Fibre in A3 size yet). It came out beautifully. This will be framed and hung next to one of Alex I printed A3 as well.

I was going to try a B&W conversion last night (when I should have been working), but time is what I ran out of.

Geoff, I will see which other shots I have that I think are worthy of posting.
