Picture Of The Week - January 26, 2010 (Australia Day)

Postby Nnnnsic on Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:48 pm

Trust me to get given the task of picking an Australia Day Picture of the Week.

Well let me tell you, ya'll haven't made it easy for me. I've been staring at the freakin' screen for over an hour trying to work out just which image to pick.

Tonight I've gazed into the beauty of norwest's landscape and turned into a whimpering cuddly cutesy mess looking at Bindii's shots of Arthur.

Where am I now?

Completely confused with the idea that I'm about to pick a baby photo as Picture of the Week.

But not just any baby photo... a brilliant baby photo. An exceptional baby photo. Possibly one of the better photos I've seen Patrick churn out.

Image

Brilliant work, Patrick.

Baby pic might be contraversial Leigh so brave choice by you (but it is a very pleasing image).

If this pic wasn't chosen for POTW I would've resigned...ok so maybe I wouldn't have but if it were my turn for POTW I definitely would've chosen this one! As I said in the original thread, this is most certainly one of Patrick's finest images I've yet seen. Congrats Patrick and great choice Leigh!

Wow - thanks Leigh, and thanks everyone for the comments.

This shot basically took itself - the elements of light; relatively stationary child; expression were all just right, meaning that I just needed to press the shutter release.

At precisely the right time, however. A decisive moment, if ever I saw one.

and please don't discount the fact, Patrick, that it still needed somebody with some modicum of skill to recognise that all of the features were there and ready for the making of this image.

After a few glasses of wine, the only fault I can
find is the vignetting. I believe it detracts from
the subject. I find his eyes mesmerising, his
smile engaging and his personality captivating.
Over all, 9/10. Congratulations!

As someone who takes a lot of kids/baby photos, this one is a standout. Well done Patrick, and well deserved. BTW, can I ask which lens you were using and what settings? Thanks.

Thanks Ozi.

The details were: the venerable 85mm at f/3.2 at 1/800 at 320ISO (and liquid nails to keep Thomas stationary).

I think it was liquid nails at f/1.4. Patrick's a Nikon user. :)

Very solly. I think this pollution-less Kiwi air is making my head fuzzy. 1.4 it is, of course, which of course Canon doesn't make.

No problems, I'm about to board a flight for Oz in a couple of hours, my head should be clear once I see the bridge.
