Landscape "miniturisation" (new images)I like the tilt/shift effect which makes images look like models so thought I'd try a PS version myself. I dont have any busy streets/people shots so tried this out. Just basically gaussian blur foreground and background. This is the first one i tried and it took 2 minutes- what do you think? Click for larger- you can see the effect more clearly.
Original Edited Doesnt look as good printed (A3) as it does on screen but good for a bit of fun! Robert Last edited by robert on Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:24 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Landscape "miniturisation"You certainly have achieved the result you set out to do - well done

Re: Landscape "miniturisation"Love it Robert - good work! Simple but very effective. Haven't seen this done before on a landscape and it really works. I wouldn't worry too much about not having city streets or people to try it on, not when you've got views like this!

Re: Landscape "miniturisation"Bloody Excellent...
Always wanted to try it... need a good pic with a high view me thinks? Canon EOS 40D
Canon EOS 400D 50mm 1.8 EF
Re: Landscape "miniturisation"Its a good choice of an image - the unedited one has a strange scale about it anyway - the blurring effect compliments this i reckon...well done.
I think you also need a few lego men clones in there - that would be the icing on teh cake. This shot reminds me of Suren's one some time ago with the soccer players which also worked quite well... gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Landscape "miniturisation"did you graduate the gaussian blur? how did you do it, what settings etc ?
looks cool Shane

Re: Landscape "miniturisation"That is really really cool!
It's amazing how 'a little blur' completely changes the visual interpretation of the image. Thanks for sharing! I'll try to be a bit nicer, if you try to be a bit smarter.
Re: Landscape "miniturisation"
I'm sure you could get more sophisticated but I just basically selected the foreground, feathered to 150 (gives a slight graduation), and then gaussian blur- not sure of strength but not overly strong. Then same with background. No graduations, not more than two areas of blur- pretty simple. Here are a few others I tried- though I dont think they worked as well as the first one I did. I think there are two key things to remember- have a high vantage and some point of focus. I think you need to click to see the effect. Robert Robert

Re: Landscape "miniturisation" (new images)I like this effect. I wonder how it looks when there is a person involved?

Re: Landscape "miniturisation" (new images)Number 2 and 5 (with the palm trees) work for me.
But, as mentioned before, this effect works better with people in the distance or animals.
Re: Landscape "miniturisation" (new images)These have worked really well, its funny that I'd always expected this process to work best with people in it to give a snense of scale, but you really don't need them to still get the sense of miniturisation. The first one and the last are my favourites of this bunch.
