Bikini at a Pier1. What I don't like about this image:
- Harsh shadow from the tip of her nose - Hot spots on left side of her face 2. What I don't like about this image: - Posing? - Not enough depth of field feeling? Behind the scene of the above image
Re: Bikini at a PierHi fhp & welcome.
First some housekeeping. It is a requirement of this site to post your location in your profile. (read the bit in red at the top of the page) On to the photos. You seem to be having serious WB issues. The model has a completely different tonality from #1 to #2 and to #3 for that matter. While the skin warm colouration in the first is more agreeable, I find the picture as a whole quite disappointing. THis is largely because the model does not read as being part of the scene. It reads more like a (poor) cut & paste to a stock image than a real scene. It may appeal to some, but I prefer a touch of reality in my images. Again, the colur in the background in #2 seems quite unbelieveable. Greg

Re: Bikini at a Pier#1 really does look a bit odd due to the lighting used / applied. Regards Colin

Re: Bikini at a Pier
Using auto white-balance may be the cause of these WB issues. The camera was certainly having trouble, especially in #2. That should be certainly fixable in post-processing. Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

Re: Bikini at a PierI actually deliberately made the white balance as such, and split toned each of them differently.
I agree as a set, they don't work together, but how about individually? (location fixed)
Re: Bikini at a Pier
Hi fhphoto! IMHO, individually they looks great. Each have a wonderous creative concept. Personally, I'm more of a fan of the 1st image, i actually like where the shadows are positioned, I cant really use words to describe it so I'll just say it works for my eye =) The second image I'll admit looks over..but bear in mind what i regard as overexposed is REALLY overexposed as I do prefer my portraits slightly less detailed and more highlights showing, but the error i notice here is that her right side torso is blending into the water behind her. Assuming she wont get cranky with me.. but that side of her looks slightly prego. But the colors in this individual piece work well. =) Where was this photoshoot taken if you dont mind me asking? Re: Bikini at a PierAs far as WB goes, I don't see an issue with them being different unless you want to make them a set. It's not uncommon to process model shots quite differently.
#1 I quite like. I agree with your assessment of the shadows, I'd like to see a little fill on the shadow side of her face to soften the shadows under the nose and chin. The hot spot doesn't bother me as much, but yes, could be reduced. I like the warm balance you've gone for, it gives a nice contrast to the cooler background and helps her stand out. I don't see an issue with her not being a part of the scene. It's a model shot, it's about her, the scene is nothing more than a backdrop and a nice one at that. The depth of field has been nicely controlled as well. #2 doesn't do as much for me. I like the pose and location, but it's the colours that I'm not liking. You've pushed them away from natural I'd say, but I don't think it works here. The colours in the behind the scenes shot are more pleasing and I'm going to guess closer to reality since you probably didn't process it. Also as mentioned her side on the right is lost in the background which is partly exposure, and partly timing - if that white water wasn't as pronounced it wouldn't happen as much. Oh and welcome to the forum, hope you hang around, I suspect you have some great images to come.
Re: Bikini at a PierI like the images....and #1 best....quite creative and what a brilliant model!
