Some more fun with stitching

Now that I have some idea of getting these things working I am going back over all the shots I took with stitching in mind, so here are a few:

Neuschwanstein castle. It's bad side anyway. The postcard view was covered in scaffolding for all of 2009.

That venice shot is identical to one I saw on nikons webbie ages ago, except it was in the evening..ok it had the same composition, nonetheless, I like it.

Well I can say I didn't copy it, but I'll take it as a good sign that I picked a similar composition to them! Mind you in Venice, there are not that many places to take a photo of the grand canal!

I'm of two minds about the foreground. In part I think it suits the way it feels to stand in that spot, and that the foreground is really important to that place, in part as a pure image maybe it's wasteful. I think in a bigger version, the former idea comes out more, as you can still see plenty of detail in the building.

The stitching is starting to work out well yeah, though in truth it's mostly about the software! These are all just a bunch of handheld shots, do regular global PP and sync across the images then let PS do the rest. I have had to do perspective correction where there are buildings as well. Especially interesting with Venice, the four right most buildings in that shot all have a different "vertical". I don't know which if any were actually vertical, so I ended up using a lamppost for guidance!

I'd have to check at home to be sure but most of the ones I have been working on range from 8-14 images. However I leave a lot of overlap when I shoot, the Venice shot above for instance when I do the stitch in CS4 and look at each later, the vast majority of the image was pulled out of only 3 of the files, with the rest contributing various bits here and there. I might experiment with just stitching those 3 files to see what result I get as I suspect I could get these with less images, but at the same time, it's only disk space!

It's was something like 8 for that one, but as above probably only needed 3.
Not sure i could live there, the masses of tourists would get on my nerves after a while. Maybe out on Burano though, I loved that island.

you're right, the tourists ruin the city - ironically its them that keep it alive financially. there are many many places that tourists do not know about, visiting these bars, cafes, venues is exploring the real city.. very easy to fall in love but also very easy to hate!

Thanks, I looked at it again and large the stiching is all wrong, so I'll have to try again. I think done right it would be really strong though.

Thanks, I like that one as well, at the time I was really annoyed that I couldn't get the postcard shot on account of the scaffolding, but in retrospect that made me look for another angle and I would probably never have got this shot otherwise.
