Pics from today at the track

Hi all, well off to the track again with 80-400 and 70-300G in hand as usual and was not too bad of a day, bit of rain and sunshine but here is a few of the very many i took.

Those shots are great John... Great panning action...

Are those handheld or do you use some sort of 'pod?

All hand held john, used to use the monopod, but sort of got ued to walking around without it. Arm is getting used to it now so yeh find it easier to do hand held, bit more freedom.

was the third shot done with the 70-300 +uv filtered?

No Thai, was the 80-400VR on then with a uv filter,of course not using the VR.

Thanks CD, Yes i took near 400 shots and they are all as good as the one i put here, just in different sections of the track. All i need now is a faster lens so the Sigma 70-200 F/2.8 is looking rather good someday soon, should be a nice lens for the track i think, even if it is not Nikon.

Yes Chris, the pics i have seen taken with this lens even with a TC on it is very nice. lots of good reports on this lens and well for 1/2 the price of the VR it will be good, ok the VR Nikon is loverly too but for what i do the sigma should do the job fine as i will use it at the track. Tomorrow i have a Car Rally to attend and take pics at as well as drop into the track on the way when i pinch my brothers laptop to show them the type of pics i offer.

They are a small club with a lot of street riders so it is something they are not going to do every day so will sell images of them on cd for a price, small amount of work from me then without running to get prints done that may be a 1 off. i think i really need to get me a host site to put all these pics very soon.

Thanks Chris here is a few more, there was more to this but just a few of a fellow who wasn't so lucky,pitty i wasnt closer when he dropped it and dodn't have lens extended.

F1GP is like barriers, more barriers, a big fence, then sit you like 5m away from the fence. By the time you've done that you've got a grid fence in front of the cars, and they look like dots Well not quite dots but it's a shame you're not closer than you are.

Something I want to organise or be a part of is a trip to see Rally Cars when (or if) they come to Melbourne. Think they do it in Victoria in the country somewhere. Have to get a UV filter for the VR though, don't want no stray stone going through it.

You have to love the track whether it is bikes cars or horses. Always so colourful.

Excellent shots John - I particularly like the first one where you can see the cloud reflections in the riders helmet...

I never thought about having to (or being able to) buy a press pass. How much is it usually? Depends on the event I guess?

Not sure about the price, but I'd imagine actually getting access to such passes would be more of an obstacle than the price...

It was funny I was taking photos of all the pros with their camera gear.....saw a few canons, saw D100s and F5s, no sign of the D2x though.

As everyone else has said - great shots and great panning, third shot is a ripper but i personally can't get over the clarity and detail of the 1st image. The reflection of the clouds and the sun fringing around them coming straight of the riders black helmut - incredible.

They're all disguised cos they're rare and you don't know wheter it's D2x or D2h, they are look the same 100% outside, and the body. The only difference is the "x" instead of the "h" and when you can have it in your hand.

Why do you take the 70-300 when the 80-400 covers just about all you will ever need and is a better lens?

Jonesy, i take it because it is in my bag, so yeh sometimes i do a lot with the 80-400 and then i will take it of in certain parts of the track. No need to have big one on and walking around all day with 80-400 hanging of your neck gets a bit much. LOL
