Brissy Meet - two from me

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

I'm lousy at portrait shots and very rusty with the camera in general, after not touching it for so long. Here are the best of mine from yesterday - which doens't say much for the quality of the rest!! Thanks to Bindii for organising it, Lani, Kat & Sherry for being very patient models and to all the crew who turned up. A fun arvo indeed.

[EDIT: Didn't like the first version I posted of this shot of Lani - preferred this unsaturated one]

Ahem! For someone who says he cant take portraits these are pretty darn good! I love the perspective you've used on both of these and the pp'ing is ace also! :)
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list... ;)

#2 has a great expression, I am torn between the bars though, I reckon it would be better without out them, however I only say that because they are so OOF, maybe if they were more in ofcus they would add to the atmosphere..ie goal etc..

#1 is very nice however I winding down that lippie would be good, at that level it looks like one of those old skool BW images with colour painted on! This would also be a good square crop..

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Gerry, I also ummed and aahed about the bars but I was looking for a shallow depth of field and expected it to look okay. Wrong!

As for the first shot, I was just looking for something a little different and so played around with some pp. Again, not the best result but shows I definitely need more practice in set-up, posing, lighting and pping (in other words, I need a lot of help when it comes to portraiture!)

The first one is the best of the two.
I am not sure about the second one.
