POTW - 23rd Feb 2010

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW - 23rd Feb 2010

Postby sheepie on Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:52 pm

Well, the joy of choosing POTW falls with me again this week and as usual it hasn't been easy to make my choice.

Something I have taken great pleasure in over the last few years is seeing people follow their photographic dream - I'd like to think their time on this forum has contributed at least in some small way to making that dream a little easier to follow, even if it's by simply providing support and friendship along the way.

This week has seen a couple of those who have done this post some stunning images -
Firstly, "(don't try this at home) Wendell" - for all the [friendly] crap we've heaped on him over the years he keeps coming back and sharing his learnings, and it's been a joy to see him progress.
The other person we've seen chase his photographic dream and share some of his pics this week is "(now with honest to goodness CAMS accreditation) Raskill".

But enough with the warm fuzzies, onto the photo that caught my eye most...

It appeared in this thread: http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38719

To me, this image tells a great story in a very simple, unclustered way. The atmosphere is thick, and although the cars aren't all that close together, the obvious tension is riveting. The headlights in the chase car reflecting on the track, the dark treatment given to the pic, and the already mentioned simplicity all go together to form a lovely, masterful image - well done Alan :)

Now thats a shock!

Thanks very much for that, and thanks very much to those who commented. Appreciate the kind words. I agree with Wendel, other than saving the world, or that other mushy thing, few things are better than following your dreams.

Thanks again!
