How many people on this board interesting to get the D2x?I'm in the negotiation of bulk buying deal of the D2x for our Govt & Corporate customers (End of Financial year lust) from two sources:
- Nikon/ Maxwell - Import from Overseas Supplies The quantity of D2x which Maxwell wants me to move is 50 units/ order and I'm waiting for the confirmation price from them. The quantity of D2x from Overseas suppliers have not been set yet same as the the confirmation of pricing, but it's very attractive and competitive. Your observation please. Birddog114

Hey, I'm VERY interested, but my bank balance isn't - let's just see how many weddings/portraits I get...but hmm, Im meant to be saving for a house/unit!
Greg is not impeccant Chris
-------------------------------- I started my life with nothing and I’ve still got most of it left
Nice try Glen, but impecunious is the adjectival form, whereas impecunity is a noun. It may be relatively archaic in general use, but is encountered regularly in legal situations (particularly in relation to people who retain Solicitors) Impecunity = poverty in this context. Greg - - - - D200 etc

I want one....not now, if all goes well, end of this year.
Also I like to see more review first by wedding photographers.
Geoff, The D2x is just cost a small portion of your ensuite Birddog114

While the D2X is a superb camera and would certainly be a nice addition to anybodies camera bag, I feel at this time it's just not in most peoples reach. Unless you're a pro, or rich amateur I don't think it's worth getting. Plus there is plenty of other things you can blow $7-8k on. Like glass, glass and more glass. Or just one big bit of glass in the 200-400VR realm
Seriously though, the D70 does what most amateur wants. At this stage I feel DSLRs are changing too much to warrant buying something of this price. I mean it was a 6.1MP DSLR last year, this year 12MP....what does next year or the year after that bring? I mean the D2X might depreciate by a substantial amount by the end of next year if Nikon bring out something new. So unless you're a pro and can get the money back by doing a few shoots, then I don't see it's worth it.
I most probably will buy D2x in the future but can't really tell when. It's a very good thing but expensive .... End of the year? Or maybe even next year ....

Hey kipper, It's a cycle of life and you have to live with it if you have something like it or the D2h, when shooting at F1GP you'll see what I meant! superfast AF, and locked the subject instantly more keeper! Birddog114

Do I want a D2X? Of course I do!! Am I willing to pay $7K for a camera? Not yet, given my usage and level of expertise...
I'm happy to stay with the D70 for the time being. I reckon that if/when the D100 replacement appears, that might be worth a look. PS: Birddog, the server went down at 12.50pm and my computer was switched off and I was on the other side of Sydney, so stop blaming me (Sorry, private joke).
I lust for it, no dought.
However I also lust for my D70 to be repaired soon and quickly. (onboard flash won't fire, one hot pixel on the sensor drawing the fine read line through my photos). I very much lust to take better photos. I lust for high quality glass. I lust to be able to spend more time learning and improving my skills. After all it isn't the quality of the kitchen and utensils that make a great meal. Cheers CD
Gerard, The D2x does not come with wifi stuff as standard, it's an optional same as GPS and it costs US$660.00 for that little thing, the GPS I have yet no price. Birddog114

I can honestly say that I have no interest in this camera at all...
I know, shocking isn't it! I reviewed the features of it before it was launched and went sort of Meh!? I don't see what the big deal is.. it looks to me like another incremental increase in all areas instead of something brand-new and different.. Now before you hit reply and start typing, read this; I am willing to admit that I may not have fully comprehended all of the features of this camera. You may now tell me how silly I am... I'm with you Christian D. I've been sourcing out some good societies and courses lately to sign up and take. Some are cheap and some are expensive, not sure how far one way or the other I should go. I shoot mainly with Kit, but have 70-300 and 50mm 1.8 and I just can't see myself upgrading anything until I have the skills to match it. I come up with some decent shots now and then, but most of them are just a tad off in some category or another, when my skills are better, then it's off to the races with my lens lust and D2x lustathon.
So weird, was accessing this thread from the front page and it wouldn't let me post, just bounced me to the homepage. Then the thread had disappeared completely and I had to look around and find it here in general discussion. Funny. In a week or two if I find a nice used D2x I might take the plunge...

Christian. I sure hope you have it back in time for the Tall Ships on Sunday week (and I thought the red line went away) Peter

NO, he better keeps it after the Tall ship trip, one week is not enough time for the D70 in the workshop. Last edited by birddog114 on Thu Mar 03, 2005 7:04 am, edited 1 time in total.

I'm actually keeping it even for another week.
Canberra International Balloon Fiesta is happening. After that, the D70 goes to hospital. CD
CD, You can have it as long as you're happy with! but pls. remember, anything you send into Maxwell by end of March, you won't be able to get it back by end of April due to Easter holidays and waiting parts. Birddog114

Greetings all,
I was playing around with some NEF files created by the D2X in photoshop last night, and I just have to say good luck to everyone thinking about getting one of these guys. My PC not only had a stroke, I also had to defibulate the poor thing several times . For the first time in my life I saw my PC sweat! So to the lucky people planning on purchasing the D2X, make sure you set aside some extra dough for a PC upgrade
huynhie, What PC do you have? heheheheh! is it a 386 or 486 I'm running those NEF files on P4/ 2Gb RAM/ heaps of SATA disks and spaces on my PCs, they're flying, won't see anything difference but a dual AMD Opteron CPU or 53 or 55FX is on order. Birddog114

You are very close Birddog! I've got a celeron 1Ghz
With how much (or should I say little) RAM ? They will be your primary issues. g.

perhaps he got 16Mb Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
The two are intricately related. Generally speaking, one of the most cost efective performance upgrades you can do to a PC is to increase the available RAM. In your case, you probably need a new MB +CPU + 2GB. How big is your HDD? What sort of graphics card does the system have? g.

I really dont do much cpu and or memory intensive activities on my pc, so I dont really feel the need to upgrade. The first time my pc complained was when I opened up the D2X nef files BTW
it a celeron 1.2Ghz 768 megs of ram geforce 4 ti graphics card with about 500gigs of hard disk space
I am also interested if it happens around June
Cheers ....bp....

Well after spending 3 days at the F1GP and having plenty of cars, plenty of girls, and quite a few celebs to shoot, I felt that I could do with a bit more umph then the D70 could deliver. I shot using a 70-200VR with the Nikon 1.7tc sometimes attached. When I had the tc attached with the 200VR slightly backed off on the zoom to give a focal length of about 280-300mm (car 100% of frame), I found that when looking at 100% that the detail wasn't that great. I mean you could make out the drivers name on the car but it wasn't crisp.
Something else that really bugged me while shooting RAW was that after 4-5 shots the D70 would stall and wouldn't provide a contiuous 3FPS (it stalled). After playing with Nikon Boys D2H and seeing that baby do 8FPS continous (no stalling), I feel that something like the D2X would be ideal for motorsports, extreme sports and air shows. I really would have to do some serious selling of things to get it.
I'm sort of tempted to see how much I could get for my mountain bike. Although that baby could come in handy at times to get me to photo shoots Darryl (aka Kipper)
