Blue Mountains Walk - Mr Darcy

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I really like #1, but #3 is a cracker - excellent image and well spotted.

And I'll fess up as the person Greg kindly loaned his tripod to - hopefully I'll have some decent shots to show for it.

Great shots there Greg.

I cant wait for the identification for #1...fungus just never was so interesting until Colin and co came along with identification and everyones great images. #2 does not do much for me, the tree trunks in the foreground lead the eye astray with nothing to focus back onto. #3 has nice use of DOF and great textures but really does lack that little extra.

My fav is the last, great blues and layers, a bit abstract but at the same time capturing the essence of the location...now was this from my trip up to QE with you?

Yes it was. It is looking south from the spot Peter & Craig were set up - Andrew had to leave early & missed the sunset. Weeks earlier though. How did your film versions turn out?

Funny. I saw the tree trunks as framing the waterfalls. Still I see your POV. Damn. :cry:

#3. Yes I would have liked to have borrowed one of Leek's girls too. :wink:

#1 These are the same Fungi that Craig and Peter also showed. They were quite tiny. We all await Andrew's definitive shots. He had one of his patented softboxes with him. We were also using the other flashes in SU4 mode attached to VALs as a mini multi light studio. Much to the fascination of the passers by.

The film scans didnt look too good, (not to mention the cost of them....$100 for the process and scan of the two rolls) so I have been waiting to revisit them (and rescan at work using the V700).

That would have done the trick nicely...but then you would have to get her to take the precarious pose as well.

SU-4 mode always works nicely...why not CLS?

The fungi are some kind of polypore. Maybe Dictyopanus pusillus if they were really tiny.
I like the hues in the last. :up:

While I do like the tones in #4, I think #3 is my favourite. Well spotted.

For #2, there's too much to draw the eye. Not only are there 2 waterfalls to look at but the tree trunks and the foreground rock with its lovely textures all compete for attention.

My fungi shots did not turn out all that well. They were overexposed with the softbox alone and underexposed with the fill flash (which we were able to diagnose some 20 minutes later as we went through what must have been happening).

Largely because it was impromptu. I don't think anyone thought of it.
THe VALs did a good job of dialing the power on request.
I wasn't using remote. I had my SB900 off camera but tethered.

I suspect it would have resolved Andrew's issues though. ATJ was using TTL onboard, and the remote on M. We decided after much thought about it that the preflash was firing the remote and buggering up the reading, but because it was low power, it was firing again with the main flash. we needed to be all Manual or all TTL (i.e. CLS)

For some weird reason I like #2. The composition appears so low key...but in fact is very effective at gently leading the eye through the image space. Wonderful!

Seriously, It is strange how #2, 3, 4 all polarise opinions.
