If anyone is looking to get this amazing portrait lens, you may be lucky to take advantage of this web catalog blunder... http://www.teds.com.au/nikon-pro-lenses/nikon-af-85mm-f1-8d/w2/i2105612_2140466/THe lens in the image is the cream machine, f1.4, and this is an amazing price! Sure the text is for the f1.8 but you may be able swing it under some "false advert" type guarantee thingo!!!

At the bottom of that page, Bruce .... ted's wrote: Ted’s does not warrant the accuracy of the content of this website and may correct any errors and may refuse to sell any product or service.
And the text of the ad clearly states that it's the 1.8. I'm not sure that this turkey will fly.

Negative, the erroneous image is still in place. Why can't they put a d300 in place of the d3xs that I want?

Does anyone have any experience with the f/1.8 lens? I have been contemplating that next for my lineup, either that or the Tammy 90mm 2.8 Micro

I think the 1.8 is looked on favourably as a very viable alternative to the 1.4, much the same as the situation with the 50mms (excluding the G lens).

I had one, but sold it when I sold all my primes off a few years ago.
I'd buy it again, and at that price would be tempted. It's a plastic barreled lens though, which to me, felt a *little* cheap, but it produced the goods image wise. Very nice.

I myself used one for about 2 weeks, works really well as a doubling portrait and macro lens ( not to mention the FX format). I'd give it a no from me though.. works doubly good, the only downside is the AF is rediculously slow compared to say a 60mm f2.8 macro ( canon). but thats just a personal opinion, the 85mm of course i my favoured lens.
