Hand over complete

well, officially the handover for my first ever wedding shoot is almost over. (just need to finish off dvd of images with their wedding sound track as background music) So as I was checking the shots before giving her the album I noticed a few more shots i would love some cc on so i can improve next time. i would like to re visit the property where i shot the images for future weddings -high hopes!! lol

Now this shot i know there are things i've picked up on but curious to know what you guys think.....

#1 I found myself looking at the details in the tree rather than at the wedding party!
#2 I like the pose and the eye contact (looks like they just shared a secret about the photographer ), not sure if it is my work monitor but I can see no detail in the dress
and again with #3, I found myself looking more at the tree and the cow...

Hi Kristen,

As Ant says - and for each of these images - there is very little detail to be seen in the bride's dress. That's strongly suggestive of an exposure issue of some sort.

In the first image, I think I would like to see much of the grass area towards the bottom of this image cropped out. I'm not sure that it adds anything to the image, and if you cropped this a little bit below the bottom of the bride's dress, I think it moght change the whole image ... and perhaps even let Ant see something other than the tree.

Finally, I'm seeing something of a greenish cast about the first and third of these images. What wb setting were you shooting with? When you're shooting in open shade, you need to pay a little more attention to the wb, as the open shade has different characteristics to open sunlight. I look to shadow areas of the image to determine if there's any unwanted cast, and that's what I'm seeing here.

that the brides will usually want to see some detail in their dresses. Maybe some selective PP will help.

#1 how about cropping it pano? Do you have any ultra-wideangle shots looking up to the group?

the last one is a gem with the wheel in the middle main subject off centre and balanced with that quirky cow in the background lots of depth and contextual clues in a well thought out crafted image

Kirsten, this is a personal view, but I am troubled by the blown out highlights and the softness that have been used on these photos. However the lighting conditions here are pretty hard to balance but I feel that there needs to be more detail in that dress.

Sorry I haven't replied to any of the comments, i've been pretty crook for the last week, but I decided today to check out my post knowing i had time to leave a proper reply!

Thanks to everyone for your comments, I agree about the dress and detail, only issue was that there was no detail on the dress! The only section on her dress was the upper chest area where the material was a little bunched but apart from that there was no detail to actually capture! sad as i would have loved to capture a bit more detail.

In regards to the first image with the tree detail and the grassy area, it was actually a shot that the bride and groom requested on visting the site for a pre wedding photo venue inspection that we capture a bit of the grass and the lovely old branch coming out of the other tree's, due to the drought thats been around the area, they wanted to capture the beautiful colors that had come from the recent storms we had prior to the wedding....it had brought out so many greens and other colors we just weren't used to seeing! So I had croped it tighter but they the bride and groom preferred it with more of the tree's and grass. But thanks for sure, will definately take notice of it for future reference.

The second image was one I captured after i had asked them to lean back on the car and relax, thats how they looked at me straight away and I liked it. A cute shot I think, and it had his car (a crewman ss) in it, so he loved it!!

The third image is one of my favourites actually, I liked the way she kind of looked angelic with a glow about her, it was natural but I did pp it to emphasise it, maybe a tad too much by the sound of it, but i loved it and as to the green about it....my eye sight isn't the best so i can't see it, even after looking in the shadows!! lol ..... As to the lay out, i had deliberately got them to stand off to the side of the tree so i could capture the stunning tree and the wheel, and that quirky cow in the background.

Interesting to hear everyones comments....they truly do mean a lot to me, as they help me improve for next time....hopefully there will be a next time!

I agree with the coments above. I believe the
last one is the best of the set. The second is
also vey good except that the bride decided to
twist her mouth instead of smiling, which is a
a shame.
