Lake Matheson Reflections

Postby Bob G on Sat Jun 05, 2010 6:16 pm

At the suggestion of AFN members we drove up to Fox Glacier for the purpose of shooting Lake Matheson. We arrived late afternoon and checked out the location so we could go directly where we needed to next morning at sunrise.

We were there about a half hour before Sunrise and we captured the Mt Cook reflections from three or four different locations.
Fortunately the water was perfectly still, apart from some ducks moving about here and there, and the sky was clear of the heavy clouds which were there the afternoon before.

It was a 90 minute walk right around the Lake and this pic was one of the latter vantage points, so taken a little after sunrise.
On return to the entry to the walking track the cafe was open for breakfast and the young guy serving asked how it was. He pointed to a very large poster behind him on the wall and said he hadn't seen it like that in the 7 months he'd been there.
I don't know if he believed me when I said it was at least as good maybe even better.

I think we were quite lucky on a few occaisions during our brief visit to NZ.

Anyway Comments please:

Another nice image there Bob. I would also agree with the trim, but also the saturation seems to be lacking a bit as you drift off into the distance....maybe a tad more contrast??

Great image Bob and also very lucky. I have been there a few times and never seen it like this.

For myself, I don't mind the left tree, gives a nice frame. I would however go for a pano crop, so cut some from top and bottom. Just a plain blue sky ;-) and nothing to add interest.

Cheers,

André

:agree: with Radar

You have to get lucky some time. We had the first sunny day in months at one place we went to as well.

This image is, in a word: LUSCIOUS!
It is begging to be printed and framed in a beautiful big frame too!
Well done Bob, fantastic image. Congrats!
There's nothing to critique, to me, this is perfect in many senses and is really quite relaxing, peaceful to look at, which is the reason I truely believe it should be printed (big) and framed. Did you do much/any PP to it?

Bob, that image is far and away the best of your NZ images to date. Stunning!!! I do think a bit of a crop off the bottom the 'equalise' the image will make it even better, in my eyes.

Beautiful image Bob. I have also been to Lake Mathieson a couple of times and only once had something similar to this view. I'll have to dig it up now and have a look again. :)

Thanks for the memories. :)
