Oxfam 100km Trailwalker track - some photos

Ok, I posted some time ago that I was walking the 100km track from Brooklyn (NSW) to Mosman for Oxfam. Having walked all but one stage of it as part of our training, the track is largely spectacular.

I have started taking the camera out on the walks to try to get some images to post on our website to encourage people to donate. As these are not scenic walks, I am generally taking these shots on the fly.

Here are a few (I don't have that many available yet):

1. Looking back to Brooklyn Bridge.
Image

2. Start of the walk - a firetrail which I reckon is at about 40' gradient. The image doesn't capture the slope at all.

3. On the track between The Cascades (Davidson) to Davidson Park (under the Roseville Bridge):

4. Middle Harbour Creek just before Roseville Bridge.

Now, the important bit - it is just before 30 June, if you make a donation now you will get the tax deduction this year.

If you feel so inclined, the website to go to is:

Any contribution would be very appreciated - we are targeting $50,000 this year!

Good luck with it!

I hear you about just trying to document the trip, its hard to think about getting a great shot when your busting ur nut up a hill!

I really like the third image, great framing on that one imo. I reckon giving teh other walker a bit more light would help, also more dof would be good but I am sure its was pretty dark there so not possible.

Love that #2 as it is. Great shot to be part of series describing the walk.

Good luck with your fund raiser.

They don't do those horizontal cuts on the concrete for nothing :)

Its always hard to get a picture that conveys gradient adequately.

Good luck with the walk. Is it a relay or an end to end?

Thanks guys

I think next time I take the camera out I am going to set it to hypofocal and aperture priority so I can more easily take photos on the run.

The walk involves a team of 4 (there are 600 teams) walking the full 100km. We have walked almost all of the track as part of the training and most of it is absolutely stunning. Walks are graded 1-5 based on difficulty (steepness, etc). 5 is the hardest. The first three stages are 4-5-4! That's 43km of a lot of steep walking. This is a profile of the walk:

looks like its the hard way around!

I dunno what gear you are taking in terms of gps tracking etc, but I would be interested in seeing heart rate plots vs time vs altitude vs speed etc....

I make similiar plots using my phone and the sportstracker app which also has a blue tooth option for a heart rate monitor, makes for good recording of painful fitness activities, in my case cycling.

did I mention Good Luck? :rotfl2:

Gerry, a client of mine asked if the profile chart resembled the ASX200 over the last 3 years - my response was that the major difference between the two is that this chart finishes higher than it started.

I have a HRM but it I don't have it linked up to any app (I don't have a fanboyphone either :P ). Last week when we did a 28km training walk, we were joined by a teammate's mate who did the NZ Oxfam 100km in 20hrs - he led the pace up the hills and my heart rate was approaching 100% of max heart rate! Apparently I burned 4,300 calories! I didn't bother getting the GPS or distance tracker as I know how long the track is (only too well) and I know how long each segment is.

Thanks Wendell - the only issue is I haven't done it yet! It's in August.
