Yabba Dabba Doo. . . . I finally got a Jabiru
There are only a couple of these on the Sunshine Coast. I've seen one a few times at Lake Mac Donald near Noosa and once at Coolum on flooded farmland. Never got close enough to photograph one though. This afternoon I went for a walk along the Maroochy River and spotted this one out from the mangroves. Came home and got the gear and drove back down and waited for the sun to get down low enough. Manager a good dozen keepers in different poses. This was full frame and just cropped to square. Comments welcome: Bob

Re: Yabba Dabba DooNice golden light Bob but II notice that it washes out the metalic sheen on the greeny neck feathers a little bit.
Congrats on crossing off another species on the list Steve (Nikon D200/D700)

Re: Yabba Dabba DooWell done - a nice capture. The plain water background looks good too.

Re: Yabba Dabba DooPerhaps you can send it off to a nature magazine if it's a rare species??
Re: Yabba Dabba DooVery good photograph. In fact excellent.
Now, I am wondering if a different square crop of the same picture might improve it further. Consider a square crop leaving the same distance between the left and right edge and positioning the head on the intersection of the rule of thirds. Perhaps it doesn't.
Re: Yabba Dabba DooI love the light! The green feathers are nice, and the pale background really lifts this image

Re: Yabba Dabba DooBob This is a great shot, it is interesting how the birds feathers at the base of the neck remble an image of an emu's head looking towards the back of the bird.
