This forum will be six years old on August 5, and we're planning a few events to commemorate this important occasion. Because August 5 is a Thursday, I'm thinking that Saturday August 7 should be the date, and I'm thinking that perhaps a picnic or bbq should be the go, at least for those of us in Sydney. I'm open to other suggestions of course; please add your thoughts to this thread. I believe that our Adelaidian members are in the process of organising something, and I'd encourage those in other locales to do likewise. All suggestions, offers of free trips and other inducements are always welcome, and again, please post into this thread. g.

Re: Six years, man.I was looking through my mail file yesterday for something (yes, I hoard emails) and stumbled on an email with the subject line:
Welcome to D70Users.com Forums It was dated 18/02/2005 and it came from gstark at RedbacksWeb.com Not quite the full 6 years, but close...
Re: Six years, man.
Will have to send out the cleanup crew to your place Andrew. Perhaps I'll notify the council.
Re: Six years, man.Andrew....it is lucky we have you, else the true birthday would have been missed!

That's from when you joined, as distinct from when the forum started. But there's still quite a few who date back to the first month. I love it that we still have so many foundation members active here. g.

Re: Six years, man.
Of course, Gary, I was never suggesting anything else. I was merely sharing my very first experience of the forum. I'm actually insulted that you would think that I'd be so dumb as to think that was when the forum started and even more so that you think you need to point it out to me. I even stated that I wasn't here for the full 6 years.
Re: Six years, man.
My apologies, Andrew. I thought that you trying to say that the site wasn't quite here for the full 6 years. g.

Re: Six years, man.Found my original welcome message as well, back in June 2005, not long after getting my D70s. Hope to sell the email message on ebay one day
These forums have certainly been an inspiration over the years and have helped me learn heaps along the way. I won't be able to make it for the anniversary celebrations, I will be manning my first photographic exhibition but more about this in another thread later. Is he 6?? I vaguely remember him during Dec 08. Perhaps he is only 2?
Re: Six years, man.
Same weekend, but not the same age. Leigh is actually referring to his sackboy project site, which will be one year old on, I think, Sunday August 8. g.

Since I started using gmail I haven't deleted anything. I just hit archive. After a few years I still have more than 80% space left.

Re: Six years, man.Centennial park has some BBQ areas but this location may be too far for some. I am not sure of any nice BBQ spots near the City. There are some in South head though. This would be way out for anyone from the Northern suburbs.
Re: Six years, man.Lane Cove River National park is fairly central to everywhere and has public BBQ's

Re: Six years, man.Last time I was down at Lane Cove, it was not a pretty place, being affected by the railway construction. Has it been restored to its former glory?
If not, I'm thinking in terms perhaps of the park just south of the bridge at Rhodes, on the eastern side of the road, or maybe somewhere around the Concord area? g.

Re: Six years, man.
Bicentennial Park, Homebush Bay. Edit: Oh, wow, did Google Maps screw up badly? This is what I got from using the link it gave me. Bicentennial Park, Homebush Bay.
Re: Six years, man.
No way in hell. The Homebush area still needs about ten years to become properly established. Probably fifteen, given the vandalism this so-called state government reaked on the area, tearing down young trees for the V8s, when there's a perfectly good circuit just ten miles further west. I was thinking somewhere on Canada Bay perhaps. Is there maybe a picnic area around Henley or Putney? g.

Re: Six years, man.Hi People!
As the third member of this fabulous forum I wish it a very happy anniversary. Sadly however I will not be able to attend as I'm into my 4th week (of 8 ) in Europe/UK. I wish all those that attend a fantastic time and a time to remember and reflect on the greatness that this forum is and also what it has to offer. Apologies for my lack of input recently, I've had several massive changes in my life and now I'm overseas with limited net access. Cheers, Geoff. Geoff

Re: Six years, man.Ok, the park in the Rhodes area I was thinking of is McIlwaine Park, on the eastern side of Concord Road.
Or perhaps we head back towards the Ramsgate/Botany Bay area, overlooking the airport? And with Phillip's posting, that reminded me of Lake Gillawarna, which is somewhere I've not been in a very long time. Thoughts please, y'all? g.

Re: Six years, man. There are also places like Apple Tree Bay (just beyond Bobbin Head) which are ideallic. Granted, there is a cost to enter as it is a NP, but the place is stunning - went there yesterday for a return walk to Berowra, and there was a layer of mist over the water. Unfortunately, I didn't take the camera.

Re: Six years, man.
Good Idea Patrick - Apple tree bay is great! 7D, 60D, 70-200mm f/4LIS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 580EX II
Re: Six years, man.As much as I love the Bobbin head area, we recently held a shoot/minimeet up that way, and I'd like to spread the love, geographically, so to speak.
Hence I think somewhere further south is probably better this time around. g.

I've already addressed this; please see my earlier post.I think the whole Homebush Bay area is an abomination, and a failure. g.

Re: Six years, man.
Yes, I realise that it's slightly away from the Homebush area but regardless, neither of those areas are really suitable. Are there any serious objections to McIlwaine Park? I've not seen any ..... 10:30ish, August 7? g.
