Smart phones vs DSLRusers.com

Now that every Tom, Dick and Harry is using a smart phone, and sometimes browsing the net, I wonder how many are using this medium regularly to read or post to DSLRusers.com??

Since the Ipad is something inbetween, I was going to exclude those unless it had a SIM card and you were dialling in.

I challenge the premise of this: is there such a thing as a "smart phone" ? I would contend that there are many phones tagged as such, but there is actually no such thing.

Gary how about rewording it so that we use mobile phone (defined as phone with a SIM card which you use on the go) instead of smart-phone?

The smartest oneI have is my landline. It ALWAYS manages to get a call connection. Something my mobile is not clever enoough to do. It can't be used to access the net though (Unless I want to dust off my old 300bd modem - Nahh!)

Used with Tapatalk, or even just a browser on a phone with a decent screen the experience is quite good, great for when your waiting at teh pub for someone or on the bus etc...or trying to find the address of a meetup when you think you have actually arrived

My phone doesnt have a 3G connection! However I can access the internet using this device, so does it count as a "smartphone"???

I can use it to access the internet, and have used it to access DSLRusers.com on occasion, so in the context of this thread my phone is a "smartphone"???

By that definition, almost every phone is a "smartphone" in this context. Even if they have to go to the full site via a simple browser.....

Smart phone and dslusers?
I'm having enough trouble just visiting this site from a normal computer. It's one of the slowest websites I get to visit and despite of ticking "stay logged in" option, it logs me out every time. It logs me out even if I do not close the browser but go back, for example. I have the same issue at home on 2 desktops and on my work laptop.

Which URLs are you using? If you're not using the dslrusers.com domain, then you will experience the symptoms you're describing.

But I am regularly able to access the site with no major performance issues from land based iinet and exetel connections, as well as mobile on Three, Virgin, and at the moment, Voda as well.

Please, all, let's not turn this thread into a performance discussion. Alex has raised one issue, and I will try to resolve just that one issue, quickly if I can.

I was using http://www.dslrusers.NET. I have tried .COM and that has fixed the staying logged in issue - thanks.

The speed does not seem to have improved, but speed I can tolerate.

The other issue that is happening with both .net and .com alike is that often when I go to the "recent" section there is nothing there or only one post and that's for the past 5 days. So to see more I have to select 7 or 10 days. I know there must be more than 1 post in the last 5 days... Am I alone seeing this?

.NET will do it every time.
Not only that, If I post using .COM, & then you post a reply to my post using .NET, when I click the link in my mail message, I will be logged out too. Frustrating, but a fact of life.

As for the other, are you sure that is for the last five days. The default view is for the last day & that clocks over at about 4pm AEST, so if you log in at 4:30 AEST, then click on the RECENT tab you will only see one or two message at best.
You need to manually click the DAYS button to see the last 5 days. Another frustrating fact of life, but I know this one frustrates Gary too. Nothing he can do about it.

I use the following link in my favourites toolbar of FF.

It seems to work fine.

What Greg has just said.

The time that Greg's referring to will be midnight Colorado time, which is where the codebase's server lives. One of the facts of life is that on a shared server, you don't get too much in the way of customisation options, nor in the choice of tools and setup options.

We are always looking at different possibilities and there's also always new tools that we're evaluating; it's a matter of finding the right combination of services and pricing.

Telstra just bumped the data on their $49 Business cap by a gig, so 1.2gb now. (You just need an ABN to get the business cap, retail $49 cap gets 500mb)

Dunno if you would rate that as affordable, but its not too bad in my book...
