Stop Mobile phone telemarketing

Postby DebT on Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:43 am

REMEMBER: Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public this month- all mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

Don't just delete those calls otherwise you will find that you have been signed up for all sorts of extra services that you
didn't want or know about. Like special chimes, music etc.
Below is a link where you can enter your phone numbers online to put an end to telemarketing calls. https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

In those immortal words ...

Don't Panic.

While Deb's heart is certainly in the right place, this didn't sound kosher to me, and especially the bit about the call recipient being charged for the call; that's now the Strayan cellphone system works. On the rare occasions that it does.

A quick visit to the Do Not Call Register website turned up this link to the ACMA site, which refers to exactly this story as being a hoax.

I remember seeing this one whilst I was at uni. IT was being circulated around my Dept by the IT guy who is usually very cautious of SPAM.

I know it's a hoax, but I did notice that my Telstra mobile number is listed on the online whitepages, but my Vodafone one isn't. I still don't get any telemarketers ringing. Telstra keeps spamming me with SMS's though :)
