Night city session suggestionsHi All,
I'm planing to organize some nigtscape workshop with my step-daughter (she's got little Coolpix 4100 and little tripod) on Wednsday night in the City of Sydney. Could you suggest any places (except Opera House and Harbour Bridge) and any good settings for my D70 and her 4100? Filters? Anything? Thanks Mikhail

Mikhail, a very popular spot is next to the Park Hyatt in Hickson Rd. On a Saturday night it is ten deep in wedding parties down there, can see the bridge and Opera House from there. The other spot is outside Luna Park looking back at the city and bridge with the added bonus of being able to take the Luna Park face, walk through LP and take shots and also go on rides. Personally I would say the lack of replies is due to the most interesting night shots on a large scale being from a point looking back at the city, not in it. If you want smaller scale, wander around the Rocks, maybe the end of George St or Argyle Cut. Good Luck
Hi Mikhail
One of the best spots is Blues Point...just behind Luna Park. You'll be able to park your bike and keep it in sight there. You get a brilliant view of the bridge/city and harbour. A 180 view. Enjoy! PS what night are you thinking of...maybe a few forum members might turn up to keep you company. Regards
Matt. K
We'll be there about 7:30pm tomorrow (Wednesday). Initially it will be 3 of us, so, bike will be resting in the garage We can catch the train to Milsons Point and then walk to Blues Point Mikhail

Mikhail, if you walk to Blues Point it is about 2km from Milsons Point. Two ways to go there A) walk north from Milsons Point station to Lavender St, go left on Lavender St to Blues Point Road and turn left on BP road down to the point. B) Walk south down to Luna Park , around boardwalk on harbour, to a small park, at the park go right around to the boatshed, then up a staircase between park and boatshed, walk up that road to Blues Point Road, then left down to point.
I would choose route B, far more scenic, little shorter and you can always stop halfway if your daughter gets tired. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.
Glen,
Why don't swim accross along the Harbour Bridge, It's a short cut, easier, and fast Birddog114

Cremorne Point isnt bad Panorama from 7 X 85mm + FE2 a few years ago http://members.ozemail.com.au/~loombera ... norama.JPG Use Manual, dont trust your metering, use your histogram to work out the best exposure for your chosen location, then go for it. I dont think cityscapes need star filters etc, theres enough detail to keep me happy without distractions Gordon
She's 15. I doubt it would be too interesting to her Gordon, Thanks but Cremorne is bit far from the place where we have to be Glen, Thanks a lot - good tips Mikhail

Unfortunately she can't make it - she's got a science test on thursday in school and will be studying. So, I'll be there myself or with my partner (she's not photographer ) Mikhail

hi, i was forced to extend my stay in syd for an extra day last year and was put into the irbis hotel on Darling harbour the night view from the crappy room is really nice. perhaps try the hotel next door (novotel) for same city shots as it has a high rise lobby with window view.
