EOI: Sunset shoot - 12 Sep- Watson's Bay- Sydney*****************If you want to attend, please PM for details*********************
I thought we should switch to sunsets until the time gets sorted out early October. Usually turn up 45 minutes before the sunset to catch any early colors. Expect to stay upto one hour after (depending on the sky) *I can't make it on the 11th* Unless there is overwhelming vote to do this on Saturday, I have moved it to Sunday. Comments? Re: EOI: Sunset shoot - 11 Sep - Sydney - Place TBAI am out, was going to do sunrise, as it is the only time I have available on Saturday - there was talk of a city scape sunrise which I may do.
Keen to do a few sunsets though, just gotta work out the timing logistics for me! gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

Re: EOI: Sunset shoot - 12 Sep- Watson's Bay- SydneyNice work with the long exposures Gerry. The movement of the clouds adds dynamic nature to the shot. Nice compos as well. You seem to be shooting pano mode quite often now?
Without my filters, I felt a little vulnerable (found them at home... ) but not as bad as leaving the tripod at home. I feel a little short changed by those clouds though.. Where did the color go? Last edited by surenj on Tue Sep 14, 2010 12:07 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: EOI: Sunset shoot - 12 Sep- Watson's Bay- SydneyGiven what you guys had to work with, these results are great.
I am assuming Gerry that you used the ND8 to create the streaming cloud effect which really adds drama to the first 2 images. Suren's B&W is quite stunning with great use being made of the rocks in the foreground to balance the dramatic sky. You guys have demonstrated how to make the most of less a less than ideal situation to produce a truly saleable commodity. ..but then again, we get plenty of practice..... I bombed out again this morning
Re: EOI: Sunset shoot - 12 Sep- Watson's Bay- Sydney
yeah I could not find any decent foreground at the location to maintain enough interest for a 6x4, hence the pano crop - that said, looking at your image the rock foreground looks very tidy, I definitely shoulda moved over where you were.
nice option on your image Suren, works very well BW, quite dramatic! good example of making do with the conditions at hand!
nah, had CPL and the GND 0.9, it was pretty low light so pushing out the f-stop was easy to obtain the longer exposures..
rofl, yeah one day we will get lucky and get the right conditions, knowing my luck I will do somethign stupid like leave the AF off... It is good practice, though and it makes one think a bit more to try and make the best of ones conditions!
I feel better already gerry's photography journey

Re: EOI: Sunset shoot - 12 Sep- Watson's Bay- Sydney
Hehe... I marked (with an X on the sand) two areas just before that rock outcrop where that fellow was camping. They looked quite promising.... But then it got too dark to go around traipsing on the rock by myself. As know I can be quite clumsy at times!
You were the one with the idea to use that rock gutter as a lead in!
Yep, that one with me was near darkness. (to both the i and iphone.... )
Or leave your tripod or batteries home.... Actually i only use AF for the initial 3rds focus. Then I am on manual especially when above f8 on the 10mm... I really need to find out more about the hyperfocal so that I can get the distant stuff in focus as well. I think I'm wasting my DOF with this guessing. Thanks Ray for your comments... I will send you a link for the behind the scenes video.. You know what... I am thinking of making short behind the scenes videos for each location... Would be hilarious to watch in 10 yrs...
