Newie Baths - leg one of Photo SafariMan getting up at 4:15am hurt...
The bizarre thing was, there were people in the baths at the ungodly hour we got there...I enjoy a paddle in the pool, but this is commitment! I know what this bloke as thinking... 'eekk mummy, this is gonna hurt' gerry's photography journey

Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo SafariWow Gerry,
Love #2 and #3, great story in number 2 and the light in #3, you have captured it beautifully. I agree, the 4am start is certainly harsh!! Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo SafariGerry,
#3 is great ..... but .... How about a square crop? cut it too the left of the arched structure, keeping the wall on the right? How about a pano crop? Look at the reflection in the water of the arched structure. Now look at the top of the image; Crop from the bottom so that area beyond the reflection is basically the same height as the sky is, at the top. g.

Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo Safari
nah, definitely not
ahhh..the pano crop... I actually was not a fan of the image - i was looking to get more definition o fthe greens in the foreground.. another different angle on the same theme, I love the transition of the sky colours and the surreal nature of the lack of shadows.. gerry's photography journey

Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo SafariDude that swimmer is rather primo! Love how there is that really contrasty feel to the shadows when you use that 300.
#2 Those waves were truly huge and great stuff in capturing that. Light on his face as well! #3 looks too surreal to be my cup of tea. I reckon you should break your rule and try to manually dodge and burn a little to see whether you can also have a few shadows in the image. You are getting very good at hiding those grads. My 4 stopper usually sticks out like a sore thumb. I think 3 stops is probably the best compromise although the sun gets blown out quite a bit. #4 the shutter is too long so it's weakened by the non-dynamic water action.
Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo Safari
yep can't fault that 300, its a very very nice lens and such contrast! I love it.
yeah I took quite a few of slightly differing compositions to try and capture the scale of the waves - this was as close as I got.
fair call! shame we did not have more time on teh w/e, I am keen to see your workflow with lightroom - next time!
yeah it surprising really, it is also a hard grad so I expected much more distinct changes when the horizon was not spot on flat...
its a hard balance to track down! ta for teh comments Suren. gerry's photography journey

Re: Newie Baths - leg one of Photo SafariNo 1 is in a class of its own. Best shot I have seen for a long time. Vibrant & Alive.
I like No 3 also despite it looking like a prop from Dr Who...which is a good thing. An earlier tardis perhaps..where is the master? Regards Peter Mc Nikon & Olympus
