Qld floods

I've just been looking at some images of the floods in Qld.

I sincerely hope that all y'all are doing ok, and that nobody here has been too badly affected by this.

It truly looks to be a real mess.

It has truly been bucketing down, and evidently not over yet!

We are OK, but there are several areas in Brisbane that are not. Creeks that have been dried up for eons are now gushing, I just saw about 20 cars that have been moved by water and flooded. One of our car sales yards has lost several vehicles to rising water.

Both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast have had plenty of rain too - the heaviest falls in 60 years apparently.

I also hope our Queensland contingent is safe.

Coffs has had 300+mm in 3 days, 460mm in last 10 and more to come. Thankfully no flooding as yet. Floods are no fun for anyone.

I live in the Gold Coast Hinterland, we have had similar rainfall to that which ozimax talks of. Some access roads to Mt Tamborine are inaccessible due to floods, but that is nothing new. The water rises pretty rapidly, but equally, it recedes pretty rapidly when it does stop raining.

Waterfalls should look pretty spectacular at the moment, must try and get out there with the camera.

We're on top of a hill so don't have flood problems, except for the garden mulch washing into the pool. Minor irritation compared to some of the devastation others have experienced.

No real solution to it apart from Council being vigilant in clearing waterways of weed and debris on a regular basis to ensure the most efficient run-off. Of course, we're not talking about normal run-off with these rainfall figures!

Better get cracking on that Ark before the wet summer gets here.

We had just on nearly 400mm in the three days which meant we had a small creek running through the yard. Living on a hill means it flows away without doing any damage, but driving around in the middle of the night doing bread deliveries can be interesting. I was lucky my son was working during the heaviest rain while I was tucked up nice and dry in bed. He thankfully did not drive into any flooded creeks but found alternative routes to ensure the bread got through.

The Deagon flooding of some houses - is a known problem area, and Cabbage Tree Creek was so full and backed up due to a very high tide as well that day (in part).

And some of those other pics - Qld weather is returning back to its norms of the 80's and very early 90's...... I know, being Brissy born & bred. Get used to that sort of afternoon rain, and don't live in McBoxes down low on floodplains.

And the flooding pictured there is nothing compared to 1974..... the flooding of that year would really take out lots of housing now - if you get a king tide + the rainfall off a tropical depression (the rainfall event after a cyclone)......

And clearing reeds etc doesn't help if the water can't flow out into Moreton Bay or the rivers...... and bear in mind there is so much more hard areas now under roof or asphalt that used to be grass or bush.

Wivenhoe Dam will only help the suburbs along Brisbane River..... assuming the rainfall is also higher up in the headwaters.....
