Re: ...waitingI would like to see some judicious cropping applied here.
The colours are great, as is the underlying subject, but the expanse of foreground, with its high point of view, does nothing for me. Crop from the bottom somewhere around that rocky outcrop that's in the middle of the bottom ... I'd be inclined to remove it completely, but pretty much anything below it should perhaps be discarded. And keep just the very edge of the headland on the left as a frame. Tell us what you think. g.

Re: ...waitingThanks for the feedback Gary
Is this what you had in mind?
Re: ...waiting
id cut even more off the left personally, just where the hilly slope bit meets the cliff so it doesnt weigh the image down cos its so high. bloody nice shot though, i really like it well done. EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3
Re: ...waitingThanks Chris
Demolished the cliff as suggested and ended up with this
Re: ...waitingThe crops have definitely improved the image! I would prefer somewhere inbetween the last and second to last.
Where was this Ray? Have you adjusted your camera to DST? Looks like you were at the beach at 0443 which is early even in my books.

Re: ...waiting
North end of Bungan Beach next to Newport. Its a great spot but with a very steep walk down (and back) via a concrete driveway. Something akin to Malabar Here is a couple more of the location ...and as you can see there was some colour in the sky ..at long last Yeah..and I need to adjust the time on the camera I have to admit to warming to the cropped images myself. In the original shot, I was attempting to utilise the channels in the rock and the water courses as a leading line to the surfer and the foreground balanced out the large cliff to the left and made the surfer a little less significant in favour of the natural elements in the frame.
Re: ...waiting
The bottom lie with the various crops that are being posted is that we're showing different ways that this image ay be cropped, and if you like none of them, that's perfectly fine. This is your image, and you call the shots, at the end of the day.
OK. And that's where I think a lower angle of view might have helped. Of course, I could be wrong ..... but it's worthy of discussion. g.

Re: ...waiting
I think this was the better course of action - the crop improves, however the cliff, for me, provides important balance and another element. My first reaction was it was too dark though, the cliff needs to be distinguishable and able to provide the forementioned balance. anyhow, in the spirit of PP reworkage, heres the version that appeals to me - as usual, let me know if ya want it removed. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: ...waitingThanks all for your constructive feedback.
You have provided me with some good options to consider and therefore this has been a worthwhile exercise.
