I just had a look at the other one. It's amazing the difference. This one is just fantastic!Much better position and colours. I definitely learned alot by looking at the two.

Was the difference in time of day or PP treatment?

Well researched Dave! In fact, I took the images on separate days. The photograph in this thread was taken when we crested the range to find those low clouds at our height sweeping into the valley. Five minutes after this, it was a white-out as this photo of mrs tff will attest.

I had learned from my earlier visit to this spot that there was a fence further up the hill, and the fence had a stile over it. I stood on the stile to take the image - it gave me greater height and that leading line of the fence taking you into the image.

Nice one Trevor, this looks almost HDR ish...any tonal contrast applied?

The horizon feels a fraction off, however that could just a be trick of the eye...I reckon you could pull out a hundred great compositions from that location!

The second image is definitely the stronger image.

I always have trouble composing landscapes and seeing these two images has helped me greatly.

Amazing how fast the weather moves across NZ. Makes it such a dangerous place for mountaineering (and paragliding)

Great use of the fence, there is depth, colour and interest in this one. Do you have anything else, maybe with the fence at an angle?

WOW. Is it just the one exposure or HDR? It's such a striking image! I agree the horizon feels tilted but I think it's the combination of the lines in the photo plus those in the clouds. I really like tone and the ominous dark clouds in this, it's perfect for the wild, windswept feel of the place.

Thanks, but I can only take a very small proportion of the credit - I only photographed the beauty that was in front of me!
