Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

VotW - irresistable and eternal

I was taken by the juxtaposition of the water and the rocks here. Movement and stillness. Irresistible force and immovable object etc. But the photo hasn't quite worked.
Any suggestions?

Again the juxtaposition of water and rock. The foreground rock was very dark. I used a flash to lift it just a tad. Think of it as old school HDR.

Others have posted much better photos of the fungi than I managed to take, but these give you a concept of size.

It could be me but it sort of looks like the shutter speed on this may have been too slow to freeze the water but too fast to give it that long whispy feel. One or the other extremem may have worked better?

Yes I saw you setup on the rock with flash out and was wondering what you were doing :) It seemed a very! long way from the falls up the top :)

Now I realise just how small the fungi really is! Thanks for posting the shots from this perspective.

The second and third pictures are,
I believe, the best.

it has interesting elements and shapes in an abstract sense - I reckon pushing the textures of the water and rock to an abstract level might make it more than what it is...

lol, classic - that is one crazy line created by the rock silhouette! I would crop out the OOF rock in the bottom of the image.

I hear ya there! you should have seen my response to Colins first fungi find - i struggled to see it even with him pointing at it

that shot is probably my favourite from this lot - nicely composed and good use of the surrounding features...

I like the first image Greg. It has strong elements of power....it's organic, almost animal, living, and the composition really grabs me. Unusual image....fine image...colours perfect for effect. A mystery that pops when you decode it.

I like #1, it is a very unconventional take on the subject and you have pulled it off nicely. Glad to see something that is less bleeding obvious than everything that everyone else has posted so far.

I knew we forgot to take size reference shots of all that fungi

#1 is quite interesting!

Maybe you could think about B&W as well as increasing the contrast and sharpness a bit (especially of the rocks).

Greg, I prefer your BW compared to the original.

On my phone Gerrys version looks posterised. ?

I really like the last two. Give a good idea of relative size scale. Love the detail too.
