EOI - Annual Coffee Meet [SYD] - Sun 6th Feb 9am-12pm

Postby Reschsmooth on Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:44 am

It is that time of year again where I extend an invitation to a small number of long-term/active DSLRUser-ites for a morning of coffee and high-brow discussion, similar to last year.

For the sake of space, I will be limiting attendance to 12-15 on a FCFS basis augmented for attendees having been DSLRUsers members for at least 12 months and a post count of at least, I dunno, a couple of hundred. I don't apologise if this sounds something not good, but given it is our primary residence, I feel entitled to be selective.

The morning will consist of making and drinking coffee, talking out of our ar$es and drinking more coffee. I won't run the cupping exercise like last year as it was just a little too much effort on my behalf :D but I will endeavor to have different brewing methods available. I may also acquire some special, cold-filtered coffee although need to check how expensive this would be.

Please indicate interest here.

Date and time in heading.

If that would be helpful...given the studio shoot seems to be organised for 30th Jan or 6th Feb, will need to consider either 13th (not sure if I am around then, however as I will be north coasting in mid/late Feb). Will then either need to be early March or possibly 23rd Jan. Problem with the 23rd is that I need to get more green coffee to roast and time is running out.

That sounds great, the cupping excerise was cool, but understand its time consuming.

As per last time I am happy to bring the la pavoni, another option for brewing and some personally roasted beans - I have some nice mexican ones atm with I am a fan of.

If you are going to do a bulk buy on green beans soon let me know, I am keen to get some more and I know you use a different supplier with different beans to me, I can share the postage cost to your place.

Bring out the macros and lets get some shots of la creme on the day!

but doesn't for me as I will be heading norf.

I gather the studio meet is for the 30th Jan? If so, we can look at the 6th Feb appreciating that back to back events may be too much. For me, I am indifferent as I am not going to the studio event. Thoughts?

Gerry, I will PM you with the site I buy from and when I am going to do a bulk buy so we can split postage.

Rodney, I don't usually drink coffee either.

I did have 3 cups from the meet before I started a drive to Newcastle. I was buzzing...

Yes it tastes awful at first, but you can acquire (read tolerate) the taste although the bad breath afterwards is not nice.

That only happens if you're drinking that god-awful non-beverage so-called instant coffee.

Which, bu the way, is like a "smart phone". Neither of them actually exist in real life.

lol, is chai a tea? does it have caffeine in it? yep it does, it has black tea in it, how about that, you learn something new every day...

Gary,
I am not convinced about your explanation on the instant coffee causing bad breath while 'good' coffee does not.

Maybe we will have to put this to the test on the day?

Suren,

For that to happen we'd need a control group drinking no coffee, and another group drinking only instant. I'm not sure that I see either of those groups being formed. :)
