Simple PleasuresI spotted this loaf of sourdough at Baker's Delight this afternoon so I decided I would knock up some bruschetta for the girls (wife and daughter)
Had to take a photo of the ingredients first. Comments welcome: Bob

Seriously Bob, a great photo indeed. I'm getting hungry just looking at it. President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)

Re: Simple PleasuresExcellent! I like the colours and composition.
Re: Simple PleasuresAgree with everyone else's comments. This world would be a worse place if we didn't have excellent olive oil and bread. Another even simpler pleasure is great, crusty bread dipped in olive oil & reduced balsamic.

Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Simple PleasuresBob,
This image is just so well executed. Lighting, composition, subject matter. Is it lunchtime yet?
And for me, if you can reduce the balsamic to zero, that would be greatly appreciated. g.

Re: Simple PleasuresThanks for the comments guys.
I can assure you all that it tasted bloody good. Quality ingredients = good bruchetta. Bob

Re: Simple PleasuresHey Bob! There's one bloody little thing that keeps narking at me with your otherwise excellent still life.....and for the life of me I can't let it go and enjoy the image for what it should be. It's the bloody cork in the wine bottle! It's pushed in too far and seems to call far too much attention to itself......It's amazing how one very small pictorial element can have such a major effect on the overall construction of the photograph. This is one of the finest examples of this that I have seen. Your image would make a fabulous training aid in any academic institution as to the power of small distracting compositional elements. For that alone....I love it!
Regards
Matt. K
Re: Simple Pleasures
Matt - It must be distracting you. That is a bottle of "first run" olive oil. Bob

Re: Simple PleasuresNow that you've pointed out the cork, I can't stop noticing it, but it didn't bother me before. I particularly like the chequered cloth, the chequered board and the almost chequered loaf... The contrast with the smooth tomatoes and glass is pleasing and makes the ingredients stand out. Well done.
Re: Simple PleasuresGreat capture! Those tomatoes sure look scrumpcious! =D
Bruscetta is my one of a kind weakness that will always make me commit the carbo-cide.. damn eye-tale-ians ! always making food delicious in the simplest ways.. Only critique on this would be the reflection in the wine bottle, a circ. pol would be great on this, but would probably affect that rosey highlight on the tomatoes, which is the catch 22..... so um... whats cooking camera hooking? =D Canon | Sony | Panasonic | Tamron | Sigma
