Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Tommy in monochromeHere, for your viewing pleasure, are a couple of shots of Tommy from our week down the coast.
I have modified these more than I normally would and would appreciate your comments. Let's see if this works. Last edited by Reschsmooth on Sun Feb 27, 2011 10:49 am, edited 10 times in total.

Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Tommy in monochrome#1 is perfect on the phone. Can't see #2 though.
Re: Tommy in monochromeI like the processing, the added warmth works well

Re: Tommy in monochromeThanks guys. I have no idea why the other photo isn't posting. I have tried it numerous times and have tried reloading to smugmug. Anyway, here is the link if you are inclined to look:

Re: Tommy in monochromeExcellent Patrick, the curved chair back provides a natural frame. Did you have to crop much of the photo out to achieve this look?

Re: Tommy in monochrome
Ozi, this is a square crop where the height/width is about equal to the height of the uncropped image. There is about 15% cropped from the right and 20% or so from the left. To the right was a green shopping bag and to the left, well, I had to crop to achieve the square crop. Regards, Patrick

Re: Tommy in monochromeNumber 1 works for me. It makes me forget the
technicalities and concentrate on the subject, which, by the way, is gorgeous. Number 2, on the other hand could improve by trying another crop and ensuring the the head of the subject is slightly more to the left and in the intersenction of the two thirds, then leave similar edge space to the right, so you still have the basket at the back in full view and and the sofa leading the eyes into the picture. I am not sure if I have explained myself well. It is an engaging picture, but I believe it can be further inproved.
Re: Tommy in monochromeAh, now I can see the second one.
