Street: City Stories...A few more street photography images from some lunchtime sessions in the city - I know I'm going nuts posting so many image series - it seems like I'm photographing every day recently!!
Anyway so what do you think - good, bad, ugly, indifferent? Whereas most of my other street images were taken with a wide angle lens (17-50mm) I thought I'd try going out with a long lens (my Nikon 70-300mm which is a very nice and sharp lens, however it isn't anywhere near as fast as my f/2.8 lens). It's interesting being forced to take all shots using just the one lens and with street photography you wouldn't get the chance to change lenses anyway before the moment is lost. You have to move around a lot more to prepare for and compose your shots. I saw these three characters together waiting at the intersection on the other side of the road so I waited till they started crossing towards me and... Re: Street: City Stories...Love the first although definitely needs some grain, like you shot it on Ilford Delta 3200.
Also like the Diptych. What would have been nice is a third shot where there is some kind of interaction with a passerby - like someone offering money or something (assuming that is why he is there). The other two don't do as much for me. Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Street: City Stories...As long as you're enjoying it, that's all that matters great to see that you're out and about with the camera on a daily basis, never know what you'll miss.
For me only the first and the diptych are the strongest out of this set. I recognised your style in particular with the second photo of the diptych, there's the back of a girl in the background Keep taking pics on a daily basis and continue to enjoy it Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
Re: Street: City Stories...Really liking the tones in the diptych. Did he know that you were taking snaps?
Re: Street: City Stories...
Thanks - I actually used a slightly different processing for the left and right images - the left was a more "normal" conversion but the right used a red filtering (I liked what it did for his eyes). ... and I'm not sure - I was obviously kneeling and moving around and taking a number of shots (7) pretty much directly in front of him (but at a reasonable distance to compress the background) but he seemed more focused on his hat and looking down. Re: Street: City Stories...Rodney you are keener than me mate. I would have thought more than twice about snapping #1, looks like the man and some goons. top shot.
I like the third shot, you seem to have a thing for legs......they are nice. The diptych just makes me feel sad so I guess mission acomplished there. Regards Colin

Re: Street: City Stories...
Funny enough that thought did cross my mind... Luckily no fisticuffs were involved and no pixels were harmed...
Gotta have my signature "subject facing away from me" shot in there somewhere
Yep - no more to say really... D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Street: City Stories...
Thanks - I bring the camera to work most days now and try to get out at lunchtimes when I can. It does however mean a cascade of potential street material to post - I'll try to limit it to stuff I feel is worthwhile or I just plain like...
Those are my two favs too - however for me the shoes were just artsy indulgence but I also really liked them from the moment I saw them walking down the street - I was just glad she had to stop at the lights which gave me time to shoot. WRT the back of the girl in the second panel of the diptych - as it happens I hadn't seen that when I took the shot but in PP I definitely noticed it and purposely left her in and used her to frame the right side
