Hi everyone

We went for a drive yesterday and this tree caught our eye... any thoughts or critique appreciated as always.... was pouring with rain so Photoshop came to the rescue as the image was covered in rain spots!

Treescapes are notoriously difficult to pull off...you need either a spectacular tree or lacking that, some other striking elements and a high level of skill. I think you've done a brilliant job with this image...exploiting the light, nailing the exposure and the composition....it just works!

I think I favour the non HDR color version. Perhaps you can put those in layers in PS and try and blend it in a bit to take the best out of both?

What I am not too keen is the dark band on the sky in the HDR version.

Like the creativity - thinking out side the 'as shot' !
B&W good as it is , some nice tones and variation in texture in the forground to add interest. I think he HDR needs a bit of 'manual/cloning ' or color burn assistance to the sky to 'color' the white bit by the base of the tree, . You have me a bit perplexed by the sky as it has less colour almost in an outline of the tree - not that I don't like it just interested in how ? was it a burn or a straight hdr conversion? Like the leading line of the barbed wire too.

This was Sunday afternoon, we decided on the fly to drive up to Clare to buy some great relish we bought on our last trip up there, only to find the lady had retired so we ended up driving there for nothing... Lunch ended up being a chocolate bar from the local supermarket there

The image doesn't really show it but it was actually bucketing down with rain when we took this - 5 minutes for image and then a 2 hour drive home soaking wet

Re: the outline near the tree, is it bad if I say I was fiddling around with the HDR settings and that look appeared and I liked it? hehe, a HDR expert I am not!! (The fence line was on purpose though....)

I might play with the black and white version a bit more.
