Botanical Wonderland

Well after a failed attempt at sunrise and sunset, I did have a pleasant walk around the Royal Bontanical Gardens after having a brief look at the Art Gallery and the Australian Landscapes 1970s-

This place always has a plethora of subjects, whether it be people, bugs, botanics or city scapes it never lets you down, I really should get there more often, the last time I was there was years and years ago.

Anyway a couple of images that I would love to have some critique and thoughts on, all very everyday and mundane subjects but its always fun to try and make then interesting in composition and effect.

#4 is a clear winner in my mind! Great freezing of the action and gets immediate interest to try and figure out what subject it is!

#1 I would have removed that green grass before taking the shot  Yeah I know it wouldn't be allowed in the botanical gardens but I think I would be doing them a favour anyways... :chook:

#2 is excellent tones and light here.

#4 and #2 are definite canvas candidates. Blow em up!

#1 even before reading Suren's comment - remove the grass :)

#2 I reckon this might look better in monochrome (shapes not colour) :)

Its interestign how people like #4, that image does not really rock my world, I mean its nice and has a quaint effect with the high shutter and water droplets, but I feel it lacks a compelling composition to compliment the effect. I guess that slight mystery of what the subject is (nipple?NSFW) adds to it as well..

I do like #2, I have for some time wanted to get a nice green succulent image of one of these plants.

yeah prolly should have, did not even realise until I go home how much it stuck out like dog ...

I did consider this but had my heart set on a succulent green image :)

yeah, sometimes ya just gotta play it by ear, if the sky ain't playing then look else where - I reckon saying its too cloudly or wet outside is a cop out for not taking pictures

Nice punchy images all round. I like the second one most off all and I have a very similar image in my library of images. I seem to recall running the Fractalius plugin over it too which was quite effective and an interesting result. If I can track it down I may well post a copy here if that's OK with you Gerry?

Gerry

I love the tonal simplicity of #2 - it's just such a wonderful image.
