Actually managed to take a few pics today as there was plenty to see.
I would like critique on these, especially the composition.

Composition in teh last is by far the best in my opinion, this is a great image for both the technical side of things but also has some arty-ness too it, the inclusion of the bark and the speck of green works well, the angle perfectly shows the fins off, I definitely could not do it better

The first has artistic merit, but comes across very flat due to the straight on composition.

The second, its been done before Colin  good technical coverage but I know you could spice that up with a bit of angle or a diagonal composition to give it a more dynamic feel.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

To add to Gerry's comments.

What if you had another light rim lighting the outlines?

I like #2 (esp on dark black) - although the bright stuff at the front is perhaps too distracting. Agree that #3 is the best for me however if it was me I'd dial down the bark on the right.

Very nice shots - I like the standard in number two, and agree with Suren's suggestion.

Seeing all these fungi shots reminds me of Journey to the Centre of the Earth (the 1959 version!)

I could not have done any better with these, in fact i probably would not have made an image of them at all as I would not have seen the subjects in the first place!

I like the second, purely because of the colours, but the third is the stand out for me.

i never knew such beautiful fungi existed ! so thanks for sharing and giving us an insight. love the second 2. really like the orange lava lamps. the leaf is too obtrusive in the first, shame cos the colour is spectacular.

You just need to be in the right place at the right time.

Colin

#3 is the standout for me. The low composition and the framing really throws the scale wonderfully out of whack for me - I keep seeing fungi the size of palm trees silhouetted against the city skyline - which really makes me look much more closely at the image than I would otherwise. Well done.
