RIP - Hetherington & Hondros

Postby Raskill on Thu Apr 21, 2011 12:12 pm

Photographer, film maker and artist Tim Hetherington was killed yesterday in Misrata, Libya while covering a battle between rebel forces and the Libyan Government Forces.

Hetherington is best known for his work filming Restrepo, which follows a platoon of US soldiers on a lonely and dangerous outpost in Afghanistan.

He was a very talented and well respected photographer and film maker, and the world is a poorer place without him. It is afterall, this type of person who lets the public see what the real cost of war is, rather than the diluted, and sanitised 6pm news version.

More info here

Killed in the same incident was pulitzer price nominee and getty photographer Chris Hondros. He sustained significant injuries in the attack, dying soon after the attack.

A sad day indeed.

Tragic losses.

I understand that several others were seriously injured as well.

Thanks for posting this; we should all pause for a moment and give thanks for what we have.

Since the Vietnam war over 300 photographers/journalist have been killed covering conflict. You are safer if you are a soldier.
