Hmmm.... What Would You Do?

Postby Raskill on Sat Apr 30, 2011 11:05 am

Okay, so I'm heading off to the States in a few days.

Wondering what lens(es) to take.

I have a choice of the following:

15mm FE
12-24mm
24-70mm
70-200mm
50mm 1.8
300 2.8 (not even thinking of this really)'

They will be mounted on a D700 body.

I am considering just taking the 50mm 1.8, and purchasing a 18-200 over there.

Can I ask for opinions please? With so much rattling about in my head, this is something I need help with!!!

Cheers!

If you actually comitted to purchase the 18-200 then your idea of going with the 50 sounds good to me.
Otherwise I use the 24-70 as my walk around these days. Just so versatile.

18-200 is a DX lens. D700 is a FX body. If you mount this, the 12MP camera will convert to a 6MP sensor ... I think . Is that your intention? You can get a 24-300 FX lens I think, which is a similar focal length as the 18-200 on a DX body

Actually, I had overlooked that, but have had nice results from that d700 & 18-200 combo before.

Never heard of the 24-300..... Time to google.....

Thanks for that!

It actually a 28-300 - it's newer than the 18-200 and is the FX equivalent lens

Well, the final decision was the 12-24mm and the 70-200.

Pain in the ass to carry about, but got some great shots. Visited B&H while in NY and bought a good P&S for future trips. The P7000 will serve me well :)
