Thanks for the reminder Scott - I just checked mine, 11857 actuations. BTW, for those that don't know how to play this game, there are some programs that tells you the number of shutter actuations.

Here's a link to ExifTool by Phil Harvey for the Mac platform which is suppose to read all Exif data including shutter count, sourced from the Nikonians website.

It is a Perl Module which uses the Mac system's Unix Terminal. It's suppose to be very easy to use but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. Maybe one of you can figure it out and give lessons on the board.

he is the one lucky bugger! to achieve at that mileage.
With the average shooter, it'll take more than 10 years to reach 100K.

I sat down and did some calculations which indicated that it will take me 10 years or more to get 100.000 shutter releases.
Cool, what is there to worry ?
Bu what if the shutter or CCD or whatever decides to die after a year ?
The more mileage the more I hope that my extended warranty comes into play.
I would expect that if the shutter dies after 2 years or three years
it will get fixed.
Also if the sensor decides to go cactus, I would hope the same applies.
I have bought extended warranty for the D70 because I haven't planned to replace the camera every 2-3 years like a PC.
I also believe that the quality of the D70 is not going to turn into compost because some other model is going to be way ahead in capabilities.
I don't replace certain things such as: TV, stereo, camera, car etc every year or two years or so, however I could but what's the point ?

Sorry, that's my little rant about how I dislike how quality items appear to become worthless or undesirable after a short time.

I doubt the replacement parts of the D70 will be available in the next 2 or 3 years, smart way is getting an extend warranty like you got, but that will be in the hand of the insurers and their repairer to make the decision to repair or not.
They might have to select the decision to give you a new model instead of fix it due to non economical repair bills, same as car.
If you got the cover, then you don't have to worry, but not all of us have the same like yours.
Same as TV/ Monitor or stereo system, mostly the insurers will cover all the repair if it fails and also will replace if it can't be fixed or non economical.
You don't often replace your gears but number of people did same as I. Fortunately, I work for the company and they pay the bills and we write them off few years after, and they gone into the "company museum"

It works that way sometimes but did not work at some other, depend on the fine print on each policy and the insurers, they may pay you $$$$ not enough for the new replacement model cos the d70 got "tear & wear" after years in use.
Some insurers advertised " New for Old", but at the time we try to get what they said, we'll suffer cos we haven't carefully read and understand the fineprint in the issued policy.
Lot of tricks are in these days.

And I'll go further - if I understood it correctly, everything that faster than 1/250s goes electronically or partially mechanically/ partialli electronically. Does this shot goes the same as fully mechanical shooter? How long this electronic shooter will last?

Well, I think I'm the poor loser on this topic! I haven't even reached 150! God that's sad! BUT....I've not yet had it for a month, I have 2 kids and I've been sick! They're my excuses and I'm sticking to them!

Taking a trip down the coast for long weekend, D70 and 70-300 in tow! If anything is worthy I will post next week!

Mine is approx 10k since the start of December and I don't get out to take photos that often at the moment.

Must be my finger getting stuck on the shutter button. I take about 300 photos per outing a lot of the time. Quantity not quality I suppose.
