Little house on the ... paddock

Robyn and I were driving through the Northern Tablelands last Saturday, enroute to dusty Tamworth. I spotted this small house next to the railway line, not far from Uralla. I just had to stop and take some photos. Thankfully I had my 5D and tripod at hand.

There is something unusual about this house. I wonder if anyone can spot it?

Chimney smack in the middle?

I like the image, but feel it would be improved if it were looking into the image rather than out of it. Perhaps clone out the telegraph pole while you are at it.

As for the something odd...
1. The chimney comes out of the peak of the roof. That puts the fireplace in the centre of the the house. Not that odd, but it is unusual. In fact it makes good sense in that cold climate - my brother in law lives just a few km away from there and I KNOW how cold it gets.
2. The house looks to be square. Two rooms by two. This is quite odd. There don't even appear to be any add ons
3. It looks as though it is built on a concrete slab. This is exceedingly odd for a house of this apparent vintage.

Rodney and Greg, thanks for the comments. As for the unusual thing, close but no bouquet. You have to look very closely at a certain feature of the building.

And yes, Uralla is freezing in the winter, although last Saturday it was magnificent. We used to live in Armidale when we were very small kids and I have an old super-8 movie of the region, blanketed, no, completely covered, in deep snow. Those were the days.

With regard to the picture, why so much space on the left side? it feels like this space should be on the other side!

Yes, used a polarizer. As for the space, to the right of the house was all sorts of junk, rail lines, stop signs etc. It was quite difficult to frame the shot. I agree it would have been easier on the eye had it been on the left with empty space to the right of frame.

I will give a clue. The unusual thing has something to do with the windows.

Is it that the windows look like they don't open? They sort of look like sash windows but there are only 4 panes and there should be 8 - 4 for the top and 4 for the bottom.

You are exactly right, and you win the prize Andrew. The windows are not actually windows. They were just painted on timber, as was the door. I suppose it's one way to stop vandalism.

Would you believe, the prize is a brand new Canon 1D MkIV and a dozen L lenses? You wouldn't believe that?

This is quite impossible to tell when I look at this picture. Were the 'timbre' jutting out of the structure. The reason for asking is that the shadows on the windows on the right are quite believable. The shadows on the left side windows are obscured.
