Nikon D80IR

With everyone getting new bodies, I think that separate section for you to proudly display your first image from your new acquisition is in order.

This applies to brand new bodies, as well as bodies that are simply newly acquired by you.

Nikon D80IR

This is not a first image, but images from my first session with this newly converted camera.

I purchased this camera as a Nikon T2 (aka factory second) a while ago, but only recently managed to get it converted. I have opted for a "plane Jane" 720nm IR conversion so I can have the best of both the false colour and deep BW worlds.

I spent the day playing with this camera trying to get a handle on IR shooting, so these are not the best images.

I like the second one, maybe a panoramic crop with some off top and bottom improves the image? btw, how expensive was it to get an IR conversion done? Have been thinking of trying one out :)

Great effect. I really like the tones of the last shot.

Nice one Cameron!

Did the IR guys do a custom preset WB for you or did you have to DIY?

The last image is hard to pick as an IR.

Thanks Tommy. I will have a play with Panoramic crops with this image when I get home.

I got my D80 converted through work (mates rates from a tech) but Camera Clinic in Melbourne converted Rooz's D60IR and they charge roughly $500 for SLR's, which in my research into the matter seems to be the going rate everywhere. I am asking the technician that did my conversion if he is willing to do more conversions and to get a price for people though.

Thanks Craig...there is something very nice about B&W IR

Suren, performing a custom preset WB for the camera is the same as always, except you shoot at a patch of green grass. I had to do my own, but I wouldnt complain about that, it only takes a few seconds. I am very grateful for the AF adjustment though.

Yes....that is unfortunate...I will probably have to try with a sitter next time!

There will be plenty to come. I am going to enjoy this camera. The only problem is that you do want to be able to shoot some visible light but miss the chance if you dont carry another camera body.

No I was being tongue and cheek with Suren :) - I meant that apparently peoples eyes turn into devil eyes with IR - i.e. it would have been easier to pick as an IR if it included her eyes :)

Ah. That would make it pretty tricky to do portraits with this body!
