Favourite spotThis is one of my favourite spots to take photos mainly because I haven't seen any images from here before and it's such a great spot. I have came here for a sunrise which is a small challenge as i had to climb down some rocks to get there and then walk through water up to my knees. The tide report said it would be high tide at 2am and going to low at 10am but that wasn't the case as the water was so high but I think that was because there was a king tide few days before.
Here are few of my favourite images. Love to know what you think about them. his was taken inbetween cathedral rocks and boneyards. I want to revist this location for the 3rd time as the tide was so high I coudln't get anywhere and my filters kept on getting wet. Also the sunrise wasn't the best but still very happy with it. Such a great spot but can be easy to overdo the image as there are so many rocks and can make the image very busy. Once I saw this ledge I knew I had to get a shot here but was hard as the water was over my knees and about half a meter to the left there was 1-2 meter deep water and constant waves crashing into the tripod. Would have liked to get a bit lower to emphasises the bottom rocks a bit more but that was not possible evidently. Struggled to even find a place to put my camera bag. This is my favourite image of them all. Camera - Nikon D90 Exposure - 0.6 Aperture - f/7.1 Focal Length - 14 mm ISO Speed - 100 Exposure Program - Manual Filters - Lee ND Hard Grad 0.9 and 0.6 stacked This was taken inbetween cathedral rocks and boneyards This was my first image (6:20am) just as there was colour in the sky but didn't do much for me in colour but loved it in black and white and a 6x17 crop. The set of rocks on the right lead your eyes in nicely. I was thinking it might be a bit too dark in the distance but then again a lot of people say they think it's fine. Camera - Nikon D90 Exposure - 6 Aperture - f/8.0 Focal Length - 16 mm ISO Speed - 100 Exposure Program - Manual Filters - Lee ND Hard Grad 0.9 This was taken inbetween cathedral rocks and boneyards. I want to revist this location for the 3rd time as the tide was so high I coudln't get anywhere and my filters kept on getting wet. Also the sunrise wasn't the best but still very happy with it. Such a great spot but can be easy to overdo the image as there are so many rocks and can make the image very busy. Hard to get the angle and position i wanted to compose the image right as I was on a small island and couldn't move back anymore or i would fall into the water and go any lower to the ground as i would get soaked. I think too much is cut out from the bottom but can't change that. Camera - Nikon D90 Exposure - 0.3 Aperture - f/9.0 Focal Length - 11 mm ISO Speed - 100 Filters - Lee ND Hard Grad 0.9 and 0.6 stacked This was taken inbetween cathedral rocks and boneyards. I want to revist this location for the 3rd time as the tide was so high I coudln't get anywhere and my filters kept on getting wet. Also the sunrise wasn't the best but still very happy with it. Such a great spot but can be easy to overdo the image as there are so many rocks and can make the image very busy. The rock face on the right is very underexposed but can't recover that to a good extent as it has lost too much details. This is because of the harsh light making the rock face in shadow and using a 0.9 and 0.6 ND Grad stacked. Camera - Nikon D90 Exposure - 0.125 sec (1/8) Aperture - f/9.0 Focal Length - 11 mm ISO Speed - 100 Filters - Lee ND Hard Grad 0.9 and 0.6 stacked I have another image of when the sun pops up and there is a nice golden glow on the rocks but didn't want to upload it as i will get in trouble for having more then 4 images. Cheers Chris
Re: Favourite spotCor!!! They are excellent... awesome actually!
It's also fantastic of you to post the techs on the shot (not that I have a hope in hell of replicating them lol).. I would love to choose a fav for you, but I really like them all they are all great in their own right, look forward to seeing more of you work.. The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Favourite spotThe colour images are excellent but i have seen them before so to speak. Lovely shots dont get me wrong, but not stand outs with all the other landscapes from same o similar locations. The mono image on the other hand...wow...that is sublime. I just love it to bits. Thats a gallery image. Awesome.

Re: Favourite spot
Thank you Bindii. I find it useful when looking at other peoples photos so thought I should do it for my images.
I think the first one is ok as it was the perfect conditions for it but the other colour images for me need to be shot again as I can get better images. Thank you that is a wonderful compliment. Is there anything you would change to make it better?
Re: Favourite spotI think the first two images are sweet as Chris.
When are we all coming down to invade your neck of the woods? Regards Colin

Re: Favourite spot
Thank you Colin. Well I finish my uni exams on Wednesday the 15th, so sometime after that would be good. I'm also going away for a week to Blue Mountains but forget when that is. We should start a new post for a DSLRusers gathering/campout at Kiama haha as so many people are keen on the idea.
Re: Favourite spot
we can fix that i am sure we can track down a army of middle aged enthusiat photographers from various forums to drop on by soon. Seriously though, you have a great spot down there with lots of really good location in a very small distance. critique wise.. 1) does not rock my boat, the haloing is an instant turn off.. 2) nice BW, good vision on this one, BW seascapes, in my eyes is quite hard to achieve - you have done well in this one imo. Some more sky is probably the only improvement I can think of.. 3 and 4 are good compositions and 4 has the perfect shutter speed for the water. 3 feels a bit light on ad something is missing, maybe push the midtone contrast done to remove some more of that perceived water movement. prolly gonna be down your way next week, if i have time will PM you for some local advice! gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Favourite spot
Hahaha yeah I think it's inevitable Yeah #1 has halos as I tried to get rid of the ND grad lines and went over the edge on the rocks. Glad you like the B+W. I cropped the sky more as it was just plain grey and wanted to keep the 6x17 crop format. I don't know why but the other two for me I don't like, mainly because there are too many little imperfections with it that bug me. I believe that I got a stunning sunrise few days ago It all just came together perfectly. So will upload them soon once I finish my exams but I am really happy with them. Get excited! haha Yeah no problem just PM me. Thank you for your helpful critique Chris
