my first hold of the d70... [marital bliss]Ok so i went back to camerahouse.
I took with me my CF card, and asked if I could stick it in the d70 and take some test photos with it. They looked at me as if i was some kind of whack job, but they obliged. (yay for customer service policies or something) I felt at home immediately with the d70. The menu was real easy to navigate around. Not being very experienced with fully auto nikon SLRS, this was a CHINCH to pick up. It felt ridicously light, something like the canon ELAN ive used once before. The grip nice and large, but it felt still solid and tough. I loved the lcd screen cover. I shoot left eye , so im prone to leaving nose grease on the screen, and if i threw it around in my camera bag it wouldnt get scuffed. I did really choose the wrong day to shoot, it was very overcast. I did though discover a dream feature, the blown-out-highlights warning. I found with my a2, highlights were always blown out, and often unrecognisable with on the lcd screen. The prompting that the highlights were blown out was something that could give a grown man... *trails off* Changing the ev value was a cinch! I switched it over to A mode, and it performed fantastically. DOF preview button was much better than expected. I loved the sound of the camera, soft, silky, like the husky voice of a pay-per-listen female phone operator. (so im told) i had trouble fooling the AF sensor. It was faster than what i was used to. I loved it. I shot at 200 - 1600 iso. I could barely tell the differance on my monitor back at home (not blown up) My a2 would have looked gastly even at 400iso. the flash filled in perfectly. at one point we went outside the shop, and i was very tempted just to run off with the whole unit. (im sure i could have outrun the salesman) i think i was there for like 30 mins. My wife started to wonder where i had gotten to. I want one bad. I might auction off some body parts (unfortunately not on ebay, they have some sort of policy forbidding it) to get one! I WANT I WANT I WAANNNNNTTTTTT ONE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW
...that comment doesn't exactly stop me thinking, dreaming and lusting after the d70! Im trying to stop thinking about how owning one would increase my living standard.. JD
OK JD, I reckon you would have needed a cigarette or a pizza after that experience described in your first post. Your living standard will, of course, be improved by the inevitable purchase of a D70 - I mean, you appear to be down to just five or six cameras. You need to act immediately, for your own happiness, and somehow (you have to work this out and convince the GLW) for the ultimate benefit of your wife. Good luck. Greg - - - - D200 etc
